Why The Flash’s Andy Muschietti Might Not Direct The Brave and the Bold

Recent news about the upcoming Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, suggests director Andy Muschietti, who also directed The Flash, might not be involved after all.

In January 2023, James Gunn revealed that a “Brave and the Bold” movie would be included in the new DC Universe (DCU) he and Peter Safran are developing for Warner Bros. and DC Studios. Gunn explained that the film will introduce the DCU’s version of Batman, alongside his son, Damian Wayne. Inspired by a popular comic book storyline by Grant Morrison, the movie will focus on the dynamic between Batman and Damian, a skilled but unruly young assassin Batman is trying to mentor. It will also lay the groundwork for the larger “Bat-Family” within the DCU.

Andy Muschietti was chosen to direct the film in June 2023, but it hasn’t started production yet and currently doesn’t have a scheduled release date.

What is the update on The Brave and the Bold Batman DCU movie?

I just saw some interesting news from Jeff Sneider over at The InSneider – it looks like Christina Hodson is going to be writing the script for The Brave and the Bold! She’s got a really cool track record, having penned movies like Bumblebee, Birds of Prey, and even The Flash which just came out this year. I’m excited to see what she brings to this project.

I just read that Hodson is definitely working on the project, but it’s still a bit unclear if Muschietti will direct. The Hollywood Reporter says he’s still involved right now, but it really depends on whether the timing works out and if he’s available. Apparently, after the huge success of ‘Welcome to Derry’ on HBO, everyone wants to work with him, so his schedule is pretty packed!

Although there hasn’t been any official word about Andy Muschietti leaving the project, he’s still expected to direct ‘The Brave and the Bold’ for now. We can expect more information to be released eventually, but it’s currently unknown how much of the script is finished, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
