Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley hint at Simon and Trevor’s secrets in Wonder Man
The two co-actors sat down to discuss their upcoming series, Wonder Man, during a recent interview.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II told Entertainment Tonight that his character, Simon, is a rising actor with a hidden secret – hinting at the superpowers Simon appears to have in previews for the show.
The actor, known for his work on Black Mirror, explained that Simon needs assistance to get the part he really wants – the lead role in the fictional Wonder Man film within the show.
Ben Kingsley, discussing his character Trevor, revealed a key element of their relationship with Simon: when Simon is at his weakest, Trevor offers help, but is hiding something himself. This suggests Trevor has a secret and that the interplay between these two characters will be central to the story.
Abdul-Mateen II also explained to the outlet why Simon is so relatable. “He is a dreamer,” he said.
Destin Daniel Cretton, who co-created Wonder Man, also highlighted the strong connection between Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley. He told the publication that after just a few scenes, viewers will feel like the two actors were perfectly cast together.
Wonder Man, a new show based on the Marvel comic book character, was created by Cretton and Andrew Guest. The series stars Arian Moayed as P. Cleary, Zlatko Burić as Von Kovak, and X Mayo. All episodes will be available to stream on Disney+ starting January 27, 2026.
