WWE 2K Team at Visual Concepts Hit Harder by Layoffs Than NBA 2K Team – Rumor

Visual Concepts, the studio behind popular games like NBA 2K and WWE 2K, has recently undergone layoffs. Insider Gaming reports that the cuts affected employees across the entire company, but the WWE 2K team appears to have been impacted more significantly than the NBA 2K team. Both the core WWE 2K development team and the team specifically working on WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition have experienced layoffs.

Although the exact number of employees impacted by the recent layoffs hasn’t been disclosed, sources indicate the cuts were substantial. The sources chose not to share a specific figure, as they were concerned it might be lower than the actual number of people affected.

Sources say that WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition didn’t perform as well as Netflix hoped, and this likely contributed to recent layoffs. The game was intended for consoles and PC, but Netflix expected it to function as a mobile game. Additionally, developers claim that Take-Two Interactive’s leadership misrepresented the game’s success internally, repeatedly stating it was performing well when it wasn’t. Due to the game’s poor performance, Netflix canceled plans for WWE 2K26: Netflix Edition and WWE 2K27: Netflix Edition, leaving the development team without a project.

The newest installment of the WWE 2K series, WWE 2K26, came out a few months ago, featuring CM Punk on the cover. This is the first time Punk has been on the cover since WWE ’13 in 2012. The game also highlights his career in a mode called “Punked,” and, similar to last year’s game, lets players create dream matches with wrestling legends.

WWE 2K26 boasts a massive roster of over 400 wrestlers, featuring both legendary names and rising stars like Blake Munroe and Rey Fenix. The game also introduces several new match types, including Three Stages of Hell, Inferno, I Quit, and Dumpster matches.

The game is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. In our review of the PS5 version – where we gave it an 8/10 – we praised its improved physics, the engaging 2K Showcase mode, and the overall fresh look. However, we thought the realism of damage, the AI opponents, and the speed of the Showcase mode could be better.

In late March, 2K Sports and Visual Concepts listened to player concerns about unlocking WWE Superstars with the Ringside Pass. They’ve now announced a significant update: all four downloadable characters included in the Ringside Pass Premium Seasons will be available right away at Tier 1 and automatically unlocked for anyone who owns the Premium Pass.
