The past two months have been active for Microsoft’s gaming team, and yesterday’s rebranding to Xbox was a major event. A key question everyone’s been asking, fueled by earlier reports, is how Microsoft will handle exclusive games. According to CEO Asha Sharma and content chief Matt Booty, they plan to revisit their strategy regarding exclusivity over time.
In a conversation with Stephen Totilo from Game File, Sharma agreed with this idea and clarified that no final decisions have been made yet. She described these choices as significant ones with long-term consequences, explaining that the company will base its decisions on data, strategy, and its core values. She promised to share more information when they are prepared.
When asked about a timeline, Sharma stated they weren’t prepared to offer one, emphasizing a desire to make the right decision, not just a quick one – a reasonable stance considering it’s been two months. However, it raises the question of whether the decision depends on how well major titles like Halo: Combat Evolved, Fable, and Forza Horizon 6 perform on the PlayStation 5.
Look, everyone knows Project Helix is a big focus for Microsoft right now – they really want to be the best in terms of performance. But they haven’t forgotten about the Xbox Series X and S! They’ve said the current consoles are solid, but they admit they haven’t given them as much attention lately, and they’re changing that. You can already see it with the updates to Achievements and Quick Resume – those are just the first steps to making the whole experience even better.
Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass recently became more affordable, but this change happened at the same time as the news that future Call of Duty games won’t be available on the service right when they’re released. However, they’re still expected to be added about a year after launch, and there’s talk of even more older Call of Duty games coming to the service eventually.
