XBOX Fans Use Player Voice System to Say They Want Fewer Ads, More Exclusives, Better Achievements

Xbox recently launched a new system for gathering player feedback, called Player Voice, and has now shared the top requests from its community. The most popular suggestion, with over 13,000 upvotes and 1,800 comments, is for more exclusive games. The second most requested feature, receiving over 10,000 votes, is free online multiplayer for Xbox consoles.

Xbox Live first launched in 2002 with the original Xbox, and since then, it has always required a paid subscription to play games online with others. This continued with Xbox 360 as Xbox Live Gold. More recently, in 2019, online multiplayer access was included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

We’ve received a lot of feedback covering many areas. People have asked for better services, a return to supporting older games, and a more organized system for Achievements. There have also been specific requests for certain regions, such as expanding Xbox availability in Brazil. A common theme is improving the Xbox console’s user interface and experience – many want to see ads removed from the home screen and better compatibility with music streaming services like YouTube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music.

Many requests focus on matching features found on PlayStation, such as a special Achievement awarded for unlocking all other Achievements in a game. This is similar to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy, which signifies complete game completion.

Xbox recently launched its Player Voice program to gather feedback directly from gamers, following comments from the company’s new CEO, Asha Sharma. Sharma has emphasized a desire to refocus Xbox on its players and has also discussed making the platform more open to developers, as she shared in an interview last month.

We told our team that we want to make the platform more open so more people can create content and players can further customize and expand it.

Since Satya Nadella appointed Phil Spencer as CEO of Microsoft Gaming (formerly Xbox), one of the first major changes was reversing planned price increases for Game Pass subscriptions. However, this meant that future Call of Duty games wouldn’t be available on Game Pass when they are first released. More recently, the company announced another branding update, changing ‘Xbox’ to ‘XBOX’.

Sharma has made significant changes to the Xbox leadership team. Several new people have joined, including Jared Palmer as VP of Xbox engineering and Tim Allen as CVP of Xbox Design. There have also been some departures, such as Kevin Gammill, who was previously CVP of gaming ecosystem and organization. Roanne Sones is leaving her position as CVP of Xbox devices and ecosystems, but will return after a break to serve as an advisor.
