Yellowstone’s New 9-Part Spinoff Hailed the ‘Most Satisfying Entry’ in Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score

Early reviews suggest Taylor Sheridan’s newest show, a spin-off of Yellowstone, is a success. The show’s Rotten Tomatoes score has now been released.

Before its release on Paramount+, the show Dutton Ranch earned a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, this is based on just eight reviews so far. Since reviews were only recently published, the score is expected to change in the coming days.

The initial reviews for Dutton Ranch are promising, with all of them currently rated “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting it will likely please fans of the Yellowstone series. Nick Schager of The Daily Beast even described it as the best installment in the franchise since the very first Yellowstone.

The Yellowstone Universe Returns With Dutton Ranch

Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprise their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in the new Dutton Ranch spinoff. The show follows their attempt to start a new life in South Texas, but they quickly face harsh realities and a powerful rival ranch determined to maintain control.

In addition to the previously announced cast, Dutton Ranch will feature Finn Little returning as Carter, a young boy who Beth and Rip have taken under their wing. Joining the Yellowstone universe are Ed Harris as Everett McKinney and Annette Bening as Beulah Jackson. Jai Courtney, Natalie Alyn Lind, Marc Menchaca, Juan Pablo Raba, and J. R. Villarreal are also new to the series.

While Dutton Ranch might not maintain a 100% positive rating, it’s unlikely to be the lowest-rated Yellowstone spin-off this year. That distinction will probably go to Marshals, which hasn’t impressed critics or viewers. The show, following Kayce Dutton, currently has a 42% rating from critics and a 27% audience score on review websites.

Despite initial concerns, Dutton Ranch demonstrates that the world of Taylor Sheridan’s shows still delivers gritty and intense storytelling, according to a review by M.N. Miller at FandomWire. Miller describes the spinoff as a gripping, dark, and highly addictive modern Western crime story.

Ana Dumaraog of ScreenRant also gave the series a positive review, stating that it’s a great choice for fans who enjoyed Yellowstone.

Dutton Ranch Is Yellowstone’s True Successor

The reviewer also rated Dutton Ranch favorably, excitedly stating that Yellowstone had returned. They pointed out that, unlike Marshals, Dutton Ranch felt like an extension of the original Yellowstone – almost like a sixth season – but with a key distinction.

According to Doll, Dutton Ranch offers a refreshing change from Yellowstone. Unlike its predecessor, where the Dutton family often faced few repercussions for their actions, Dutton Ranch presents more realistic challenges for its characters.

The new series, Dutton Ranch, will launch on Paramount+ on May 15th with the first two episodes. The remaining seven episodes will then be released each week until July 3rd. Although a second season isn’t officially confirmed, recent news suggests the creators are hoping the show will continue beyond its first season.
