Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad believes IO Interactive is trying to increase pre-order numbers, which were reportedly low. The studio seems to be hoping this teaser, and others like it, will generate more buzz for the game, as their traditional marketing approach hasn’t been very effective.

Sales haven’t started off as strongly as hoped, so the team is exploring creative marketing approaches. Their initial campaign, which appealed to nostalgia for older James Bond fans, didn’t attract much attention from a wider audience.

When questioned about whether the marketing for 007 First Light might have saturated its core audience, Ahmad explained that the studio is targeting players beyond just fans of James Bond or Hitman. He compared the current level of interest to that of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, suggesting it’s more aligned with that game than with Uncharted.

He believes the game will likely perform well, given the success of similar action-adventure titles like Bond and Hitman. However, he thinks current player excitement is higher for Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game than for something like Uncharted right now.

Now that early access to 007 First Light has begun, the first reviews are coming in. Critics seem to like the game, giving the PlayStation 5 version an average score of 88 on Metacritic based on 51 reviews. This score could shift as more reviews are published in the next few days.

The game 007 First Light will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. While IO Interactive initially planned a Nintendo Switch 2 version, they’ve postponed its release until later this summer to allow for more development time.
