For me, May is usually a quiet month before things get hectic. June is packed with events and game demos, and many developers hold back releases in the following months to avoid competing with the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. However, May still has plenty of great games coming out, including major blockbusters and interesting indie titles. Here’s a look at the 15 biggest games launching in May 2026, starting with…
Forza Horizon 6
It’s been almost five years since the last Horizon Festival, and now it’s back – this time in Japan, a location fans have been eagerly waiting for! Imagine cruising under cherry blossoms in spring, challenging others on winding mountain roads, or simply showing off your car at Daikoku. That’s just the beginning of what Forza Horizon 6 offers. You can build your legacy by exploring Japan, uncovering hidden cars and locations, or by rising through the ranks to become a Horizon Legend. Ultimately, though, the game is about your experience. Collect memories, customize your garage, and build your home base – the choice is yours when it launches on May 19th for PC and Xbox Series X/S.
Directive 8020
Whether you love or hate the movie The Thing, it tapped into a chilling idea that’s stuck with gamers ever since: the fear that someone among your team isn’t who they seem. Supermassive Games’ Directive 8020 plays on that same fear, putting you on the colony ship Cassiopeia after it crash-lands on the planet Tau Ceti f. But things quickly go wrong when a terrifying creature that can change its shape starts hunting the crew. This installment of The Dark Pictures Anthology puts more emphasis on stealth and fighting, and carefully figuring out who you can trust. Thankfully, the Turning Points system lets you rewind and try again if you make the wrong choice. Directive 8020 comes out on May 12th for Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5, and after a long wait, we’re excited (and scared!) to play.
MOTORSLICE
Forget typical monsters and robots – what if construction equipment became the biggest danger? That’s the unique idea behind MOTORSLICE, where you play as P, a skilled fighter who uses a chainsaw and parkour moves to take on these giant machines in a world after a disaster. The game also features a massive, endlessly winding structure to explore. With its simple but striking art style and unusual concept, MOTORSLICE promises fast-paced, action-packed platforming when it releases on May 5th.
WILL: Follow The Light

Unreal Engine 5 works well with adventure games, and WILL: Follow the Light feels particularly special. It’s reminiscent of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter in its immersive atmosphere, but puts you in the role of a father desperately trying to find his son and return home. It won’t be easy, as he’ll have to navigate treacherous seas, scale mountains, and face painful memories. This game could be a surprisingly beautiful and compelling narrative adventure – or it might not. We’ll know for sure on May 7th.
Luna Abyss
If you’re a fan of intense, bullet-hell shooters, Luna Abyss looks promising! You play as someone exiled to a lunar prison and sent into a dangerous place called the Abyss to find lost technology. But beware – the cosmic creatures you encounter are terrifying and relentless, and you’ll have to fight to maintain your sanity. As someone who loved games like Saros and Metal Eden, I’m excited to explore the visually striking, red-toned world of Luna Abyss when it releases on PC on May 21st.
Bubsy 4D
The classic character Bubsy is making a comeback with Bubsy 4D, launching on May 22nd for all major platforms. This new game features 15 levels and takes Bubsy into the world of 3D for the first time. It even includes a unique ability – Bubsy can roll around incredibly fast! While the game playfully acknowledges Bubsy’s past, it actually looks like a fun and engaging 3D platformer, and we’re definitely curious to see more.
007 First Light
As James Bond famously said, you only live twice, and now IO Interactive lets us experience his early days as a 00 agent. In First Light, Bond is just entering MI6, eager to prove himself and push his boundaries. The game builds on the Hitman formula – beautiful, open levels with tons of ways to sneak around – but expands on it with everything you’d expect from Bond. Think parkour, stealth, disguises, and Q’s cool gadgets. Once he gets his “license to kill,” he can go in guns blazing with a variety of weapons and close-combat moves – he’ll even throw empty guns at enemies to distract them! 007 First Light launches on May 27th, offering a thrilling super-spy experience.
Thick as Thieves

Fans of classic stealth games like Deus Ex and Thief will be excited about Thick as Thieves, the new game from industry veterans Warren Spector and Paul Neurath. We were initially unsure about the game’s mix of player-versus-player and environmental challenges, but the developers have shifted focus to a single-player and co-op experience that truly captures the spirit of Thief. Set in an alternate 1910s city with dynamically generated levels, Thick as Thieves emphasizes quick thinking and skill as you strive to become a master thief. It launches on PC May 20th.
Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core
If you’ve noticed all the hype around Deep Rock Galactic – and all the shouts of “rock and stone!” – but haven’t quite jumped in yourself, a new spin-off might be just what you need. Rogue Core, launching in early access on May 20th, puts you in the role of the Reclaimers, a squad called in to handle major threats. Each playthrough involves fighting a powerful Core Spawn, upgrading your abilities, and making the most of whatever weapons you find. After a lot of development since it was first announced in October 2023, fans are hoping Rogue Core will be as great as the original Deep Rock Galactic.
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
While it might not quite capture the charm of the original Yoshi’s Island, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book looks like a relaxing and simple platformer, similar to Yoshi’s Crafted World. In this new adventure, Yoshi explores the pages of a book, encountering and teaming up with new creatures. Players will still enjoy classic Yoshi moves like gliding and throwing eggs, but with the added ability to use these creatures’ unique powers. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch on May 21st.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight
Get ready to revisit Gotham City! Batman is back in video games on May 22nd with LEGO Legacy of the Dark Knight. This game draws inspiration from all corners of Batman lore – you’ll see various Batmobiles and even some surprising outfits like the Batmite costume. Explore a huge open-world Gotham and enjoy the smooth combat system from the Arkham games. Plus, you can play as seven different characters, including Catwoman, Nightwing, and Robin!
ZERO PARADES: For Dead Spies

It’s hard to ignore the issues surrounding ZA/UM and the original creators of Disco Elysium. However, if you’re looking for a similar experience – this time focused on espionage and playing as Hershel Wilke, who’s caught between three warring factions – Zero Parades might be worth checking out when it releases on PC on May 21st.
Better Than Dead
While first-person shooter games with a bodycam perspective aren’t brand new, Better Than Dead really stands out. The game puts you on a revenge mission in Hong Kong, where you’ll be taking down targets while trying to avoid the same fate. It’s clearly inspired by classic Hong Kong action movies, giving it a cool, gritty feel. You can try it out on PC when it enters early access on May 12th.
Dark Light: Survivor
Like switching between different perspectives in Resident Evil Requiem, Dark Light: Survivor offers a unique twist: it changes not only the viewpoint (from top-down to third-person) but also the visual style, sometimes shifting between realistic and pixelated graphics. This roguelike survival game takes you on a journey through the Phantom Train, a terrifying multiverse where you must collect resources to keep it running. When early access launches on May 15th, you’ll have access to two maps, along with persistent upgrades called Artifacts, a variety of weapons, and more. While the goal is to reach your destination, the developing journey of Dark Light: Survivor is already proving to be quite interesting.
Withering Realms
The creator of the atmospheric game Withering Rooms is back with Withering Realms, a unique adventure where you guide a ghostly spirit carried by a spooky doll. You’ll explore the town of Penwyll, which seems peaceful…but probably isn’t! The game’s combat and style are reminiscent of Bloodborne, but also have a similar feel to the classic game Nightmare Creatures. Withering Realms will be available in early access this May, and you’ll be able to play the entire game right away. The full, finished version (1.0) is planned for release later this year.
