I’ve been watching Cartoon Network since I was a kid – it’s been a huge part of my life since 1992! Even though so many people are switching to streaming now, it’s awesome that it’s still around. They’re doing great with new shows, but I’m especially excited to see them bringing back classics like Regular Show and Adventure Time. But there’s one show that really deserves more attention. It started 18 years ago and built this incredibly dedicated fanbase, but it hasn’t quite reached the same level of popularity as shows like Adventure Time. It’s a really unique, epic adventure, and I think it’s time we celebrated it properly!
Premiering in 2008, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack ran for three seasons and forty-six episodes. The cartoon followed a young boy named Flapjack as he navigated a world of pirates, but it also contained surprisingly unsettling moments that have become popular internet memes. Alongside Flapjack, memorable characters like the washed-up Captain K’nuckles and the kind-hearted whale Bubbie brought these unique stories to life. Though the show ended in 2010 and hasn’t been revived, it’s a series that, even eighteen years later, deserves recognition alongside hits like Adventure Time and Regular Show.
The Adventure of Flapjack

Although a full revival of Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack hasn’t happened, there was a surprising idea to bring the series back in a small way. The showrunner of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, Adam Muto, revealed that he and his team seriously considered having the main character visit the world of Flapjack for a whole episode. Ultimately, the crossover didn’t happen, but Muto hinted during a recent interview that it could still become a reality if Fionna and Cake gets a third season on HBO Max.
In an interview last year, Muto mentioned they considered dedicating an entire episode to the character Flapjack, exploring what it would be like to place her within that world. While they did some initial brainstorming and even a sketch, the idea didn’t progress much further. Muto explained they always aim to create something new with each episode, and while Flapjack could reappear, they felt it might be a step backward. They left the possibility open, suggesting Flapjack might return in some capacity by season three.
Okay, if you’re like me and somehow missed The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, great news – the whole thing is now on Hulu! And while you can find revivals of shows like Regular Show and Adventure Time elsewhere, Hulu’s really been killing it with Cartoon Network comebacks. The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball actually became a huge hit for them, even beating out the viewership of King of the Hill’s fourteenth season – which is pretty impressive!
