PlayStation Plus members on PS4 and PS5 can get the action RPG Monster Hunter Rise for free until April 7th. Originally released in 2021 and initially exclusive to Nintendo Switch, it became available on PlayStation consoles in 2023. The game was a major hit for Capcom, selling over 15 million copies and becoming one of the best-selling games of the year, second only to Monster Hunter World in the series. It also received critical acclaim, earning an 88 on Metacritic and ranking among the highest-rated games of its year.
A Very Big and Long RPG
Normally, Monster Hunter Rise costs $40 on the PlayStation Store and has a very positive rating of 4.31 out of 5 stars, based on almost 17,000 reviews. For the price, it offers a significant amount of gameplay. The main story takes around 20-25 hours to complete, and with side quests, that playtime extends to about 80 hours. Players who aim to complete absolutely everything will need even longer – around 180 hours with the game.
For those wondering about the PS5 Pro, Monster Hunter Rise doesn’t have any special upgrades for the new console. This isn’t unexpected, as the game was released before the PS5 Pro even existed. While some older games have been updated to take advantage of the PS5 Pro’s features, Monster Hunter Rise isn’t one of them.
If you’re not excited about this RPG, or you’ve already played it, don’t worry – there are other free games included with your subscription. However, this game is definitely the biggest draw this month, so the other options might not be as appealing.
