Don’t let the title mislead you—this show tackles surprisingly mature themes, which is typical for Genndy Tartakovsky, the creator of shows like Samurai Jack and Primal. Unfortunately, it was cancelled after just one season, and a second season never materialized. The story follows a young girl unexpectedly given magical powers who learns she’s part of an ancient lineage of heroes tasked with battling a timeless supernatural threat. The animation style is completely unique, and while the world-building was sometimes stronger than the plot itself, Unicorn: Warriors Eternal is truly one-of-a-kind. We’re hoping someone will consider bringing it back for future seasons!

2) Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts

I honestly don’t understand how this show flew under the radar for so long. The animation style is truly unique – I’ve never seen anything quite like it! And the story? It’s a beautiful mix of heartwarming moments and genuinely tough situations. It follows Kipo, a girl who lived her whole life underground, until an attack forces her to the surface. It’s critically acclaimed – it still has a 100% rating, which speaks for itself! It’s weird and funny, but also deals with some really dark themes, and it has so much heart – something you don’t often find in animated series these days.

Despite being a fantastic urban fantasy series, it’s surprising Gargoyles hasn’t seen a resurgence in popularity. The show is a unique blend of classic and forward-thinking storytelling. It follows a clan of gargoyles who were originally tasked with protecting a Scottish castle in the 10th century. After being cursed to sleep for a thousand years, they awaken in modern-day Manhattan, where the castle has been relocated by a mysterious billionaire. Each night, the gargoyles come to life and patrol the city, fighting crime and protecting its citizens. Their leader develops a strong connection with detective Elisa Maza, but as Manhattan discovers their existence, fear begins to grow. Gargoyles is a nearly flawless gothic fantasy with stunning animation that still looks great today. Combined with a serious tone and compelling stakes, it’s a fantasy show that truly lives up to the praise it receives.
