As a DC fan, I’ve been keeping a close eye on everything coming out of DC Studios, and there’s a lot to be excited about – including the recent news about a Clayface project. One series generating buzz is Lanterns, a show inspired by the Green Lantern universe. They actually dropped a trailer earlier this year, but here’s the strange thing: it’s completely disappeared! I’ve checked everywhere – the official DC and HBO accounts – and it’s gone from all of them, except for one place.
The trailer for Lanterns has been removed from DC and HBO Max’s official social media channels and accounts, though it’s currently unclear why. Interestingly, official posters and short animated clips for the show were also released yesterday, sparking a lot of online conversation. As of now, the only place to find the trailer from an official source is on James Gunn’s original post when it was first released.
You manifested it early.

Lanterns’ New Tagline Is Generating Lots of Reactions

The first official poster for the upcoming series has been released, revealing a new look for the Power Ring and featuring silhouettes of the show’s two main characters beneath it. However, it’s the poster’s tagline – ‘only one can wear the ring’ – that’s really getting people talking, as it changes how we interpret the trailer.
When I first saw the trailer, it really looked like the movie was going to be about Hal Jordan mentoring John Stewart, basically getting him ready to take over as a full-time Green Lantern. There was some tension between them, sure, but it came across as just them having different personalities and butting heads, not a big rivalry or anything.
The phrase ‘only one can wear the ring’ significantly alters how we view the story. It suggests Stewart is progressing well with his training, but Jordan isn’t willing to relinquish the ring. If there’s only one ring, the conflicts shown in the trailer likely represent a struggle between two individuals vying for its power, with only one ultimately able to claim it.
We’re not sure why the trailers were taken down, but it’s possible a new one is coming soon, and they were removed to make space for it. For now, we’ll have to wait and find out.
Lanterns will release on HBO Max in August 2026.
