Influencer Tanner Martin Welcomed Baby Weeks Before His Death at Age 30

Tanner Martin, an influencer, and his spouse, Shay Wright, were blessed with their first child just weeks prior to Tanner’s passing, following a fight against colon cancer.

On May 15th, the couple made public that they had a new addition to their family – a baby girl named Amy Lou. They also shared several pictures of the newborn, including one where Martin, aged 30, held Amy Lou, and Wright admired the duo in another view.

I can’t contain my joy and love as I share this heartwarming news: My little dumpling, or ‘jiaozi,’ as we fondly call her in Chinese, has made her grand entrance into the world!

Martin broke the news of his own death via social media on Wednesday, June 25.

Greetings, this is Tanner speaking. If you’re listening to this message, I’m no longer here. I had an extraordinary life, and I chose to make this video as a way of announcing my passing. A year or so ago, I saw someone else do something similar, and I thought it was a meaningful way to express all the thoughts that have been on my mind.

He added, “My time here was fantastic. I truly savored every moment. I have faith that there’s more beyond this, and I can hardly wait to encounter those individuals. Perhaps we’re already socializing, laughing at all the so-called ‘nerds’.

Martin expressed gratitude towards his family, friends, and fans for making the final chapters of his life filled with joy and comfort.

On a recent Instagram post made on Wednesday, Martin expressed his final desire, asking fans to contribute to a GoFundMe campaign to aid Wright and their child. He mentioned that the funds raised through this GoFundMe would serve two purposes: firstly, it would compensate for his own income, and secondly, it would cover educational expenses and significant life events for their daughter.

Martin received a stage IV colon cancer diagnosis in November 2020. Since then, he and his wife have been sharing their experiences on social media. In November 2024, they joyfully shared that they were expecting their first child.

Wright once shared with People magazine, “Usually, when someone gets pregnant, there’s just excitement about the future.” However, he added, “For us, while there’s certainly excitement, we’re also dealing with feelings of grief, fear, and anxiety.

Wright observed that the couple’s choice to grow their family was “significant” and required them approximately two years to fully accept and adjust to the decision.

Being a mental health therapist, I’ve got a good grasp on the study of child development, as well as strategies to minimize potential harmful impacts. However, regardless of the approach, it’s clear that this journey won’t be easy.
