Is it possible that fans of Grey’s Anatomy might be concerned about the future of the character, Nick, played by Scott Speedman, following his recent acquisition of a new TV role?
On Wednesday, June 25th, it was made public that Speedman secured the primary part in the pilot of ABC’s show titled “RJ Decker.” This series is adapted from Carl Hiaasen’s novel “Double Whammy.” The story revolves around a disgraced newspaper photographer and former convict who embarks on a new career as a private investigator in the vibrant-yet-criminal South Florida setting. He takes on various cases, ranging from somewhat peculiar to completely absurd, with the assistance of his ex-journalist partner, her police detective spouse, and a mysterious woman from his past – a potential ally who might either guide him towards success or lead him back to prison.
The report stated that Speedman’s character as Nick Marsh in Grey’s Anatomy wouldn’t change if RJ Decker is selected. In this case, Speedman will still appear frequently in the medical series.
49-year-old Kevin McKidd initially appeared on “Grey’s Anatomy” as a guest star during season 14. Later, he became a regular cast member in seasons 18 and 19, playing Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) love interest. After a hiatus from the series, McKidd returned to the cast as a recurring character in season 20 and has been part of “Grey’s Anatomy” ever since.
Speedman shared during an interview on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight With Jessica Shaw in October 2024 that he had anticipated his character’s return to the show would be straightforward, but it turned out differently. He isn’t very active on social media, but he recalls logging on after his first episode aired and seeing hints about his character returning to the series.
Speaking as one overjoyed fan, I must say, the online response wasn’t exactly what I’d call a standing ovation. There were plenty of virtual thumbs-down, symbolized by a barrage of vomit emojis. “Alright, alright,” I found myself muttering.
Speedman found it amusing to observe the public’s strong reactions, commenting, “It’s quite remarkable how seriously people take this character, and how passionate they are about who supports this character.
Although it appears that Speedman’s role in the show remains unchanged, fans are keeping their fingers crossed to discover which character won’t be part of Season 22. In the Season 21 finale back in May, Piper Perabo portrayed a mother who smuggled an extremely combustible acetylene tank into the operating theater, compelling Amelia (played by Caterina Scorsone) to carry out a risky operation to save her daughter.
Although the operation went well, someone inadvertently opened the tank, causing its volatile contents to spill onto the operational area. In the closing scenes, an explosion occurred, with only Meredith and Warren (Jason George) seemingly escaping – at least for the time being.
Meg Marinis, the producer of “Grey’s Anatomy”, didn’t specify who got hurt in the explosion, but she did hint that few characters might survive to appear in season 22.
She stated to The Hollywood Reporter last month that it’s likely many individuals might be in operating rooms. Therefore, without actually witnessing them or knowing their location at the time of the explosion, it seems uncertain to assert that any particular person was definitely safe.
