Following his impressive return for the 60th-anniversary specials, David Tennant hasn’t dismissed the possibility of reprising his role as The Doctor in Doctor Who once more.
The actor, who took on both the Tenth Doctor and the Fourteenth Doctor roles following his comeback in 2023, shared his affection for the series during a recent chat with Michael Rosenbaum on his podcast, “Inside of You.
Upon being inquired about the possibility of him or his wife Georgia (famously known for her role as Jenny in The Doctor’s Daughter) rejoining the show, Tennant remarked: “It might hinge on the specific conditions at hand.
Two years ago, he returned for a brief spell, and had the pleasure of doing it three times in a row.
As a passionate cinephile, I must admit that I’ve been eagerly anticipating the return of my favorite actor in his captivating series. Yet, during an interview with Deadline this year, he shared some intriguing insights about the show’s direction: “One of the factors that makes it so dynamic is its ability to reinvent and discover innovative methods for storytelling… as far as I understand, this revitalization process seems to be unfolding without me for a spell.
I would certainly let you know if there was any truth to it!

Last year, Tennant hinted that the last scenes of the third anniversary special, titled “The Giggle,” would likely mark his departure from Doctor Who. In an interview with TopMob magazine, he said, “The Doctor is content. He’s enjoying a mac and cheese meal in Chiswick, prepared by Bonnie Langford! The door for potential returns isn’t any more open than it has ever been because in Doctor Who, there are always multiple ways to bring someone back. It definitely feels like the conclusion of this story.
Yet, Billie Piper, who previously starred alongside Tennant on the show, reappeared towards the end of the previous season. Intriguingly, Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor transformed into her character, although she has yet to be officially announced as the Sixteenth Doctor.
Regarding her unexpected return at Florida SuperCon, she shared that she had to tread carefully when addressing this topic. All she could disclose was that she was contacted at the last moment, and she couldn’t discuss the details of her involvement. However, she found the filming experience deeply emotional and believes it makes for a wonderful conclusion.
I found it deeply emotional and highly enjoyable to work on, as it had this mysterious, secretive vibe that surrounded its production. It appears that I often need to be discreet when discussing Doctor Who-related topics.
Clearly, the possibilities are still endless!
Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
