Eight Years Ago, Game of Thrones Gave Us an Epic Cliffhanger Moment (But Did It Really Work?)

As a die-hard Game of Thrones fan, let me tell you, the first six seasons are nothing short of spectacular! With its intricate web of storylines, it’s impressive how the show manages to keep everything in balance, delving deep into Daenerys Targaryen’s adventures in Essos while also unraveling Cersei Lannister’s cunning strategies in King’s Landing. The ultimate objective? Claiming the Iron Throne, of course!

Throughout the series, the Lannister family holds the reins of power, using their immense fortune and influence to force submission from all the Great Houses. But Daenerys isn’t having any part of it. By the end of Season 6, she’s ready for action, setting sail to Westeros with a determined look in her eyes, prepared to challenge Cersei and anyone else who dares stand in her path.

Upon reaching Dragonstone, Daenerys uncovers that threats to her rule aren’t limited to Cersei alone. Another antagonist lies beyond the Wall, and as Jon Snow reveals, they have no intention of being allies. The alliance between Jon and Daenerys paves the way for the gripping climax in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7, a moment that could potentially be the final grand spectacle before the series concludes.

The Night King Does the Impossible in Game of Thrones Season 7

As a passionate film buff might narrate, I can’t help but share my thoughts about the chilling events that unfolded in Hardhome. The army of the dead descended upon the wildling village like a storm, leaving nothing but devastation in their wake and adding more souls to their horrifying ranks. The sight of the Night King resurrecting the fallen will forever linger in my memory.

After reclaiming Winterfell, my cherished childhood home, I ascended to the throne as the King of the North. With the looming threat of the Night King’s invasion constantly on my mind, I dedicated myself to readying my people for the impending battle. However, things took an unexpected turn when Daenerys, the Mother of Dragons, arrived on the scene.

Her demand that I bend the knee was met with disdain from me. With the stakes so high and time running short, there’s simply no room for such trivial matters. My heart yearns to venture to Dragonstone to mine the precious Dragonglass, an essential tool in our fight against the Night King, before returning home.

Luckily, a compromise was reached between us, and once Daenerys truly comprehended the severity of the situation, she wholeheartedly threw her support behind her new ally, myself. Now, we stand united in the face of this unimaginable terror, ready to defend Westeros against the army of the dead.

As Jon ventures northward to seize a wight, he encounters an unexpected obstacle: a colossal army. It appears that escaping is out of the question until Daenerys shows up with her dragons and torches the zombie horde. However, the Night King isn’t so easily deterred; he slays Viserion with an icicle, causing immense grief for his mother. Jon consoles Daenerys as they journey to King’s Landing to meet Cersei, but in the North, the Night King is still at work. He reanimates Viserion and leads him to the Wall in the Season 7 finale – a barrier thought to be invincible. The creature swiftly demolishes the structure, paving the way for the undead army to march toward Winterfell. Sadly, the climactic scene hinted at in the cliffhanger doesn’t quite meet expectations.

Game of Thrones Drops the Ball During the Battle of Winterfell

In the first episode of Season 8 of “Game of Thrones”, the story revolves around Jon Snow and his allies getting ready for the impending attack by the Night King. Winterfell is leaving no stone unturned, even inviting Jaime Lannister, a key ally of Cersei, to join the battle. However, once the Night King arrives, all the preparations seem insignificant. The episode titled “The Long Night” stands out for its dark visuals, making it difficult to follow the action. Despite the darkness, significant moments like Jorah Mormont’s death and the alliance between Jaime and Brienne of Tarth are noteworthy.

Regarding the Night King, the main antagonist throughout the series, he remains quite formidable, soaring on his dragon into combat and causing significant destruction. However, engaging in battle with the Starks turns out to be a grave mistake for him, as this presents an opportunity for Arya Stark to strike. Although it seems like her defining moment will be against Cersei at the series’ end, the creators of “Game of Thrones” opt to change the narrative by having the Night King become Arya’s final victim instead. This unexpected twist leaves Jon Snow’s quest feeling underwhelming. Occasionally, sticking to the traditional path is wise, but in its closing scenes, “Game of Thrones” chooses to defy convention and challenge audience expectations.
