Hollywood has lost a beloved actor.
Graham Greene, who received an Oscar nomination for his role as Kicking Bird in the 1990 film “Dances with Wolves,” passed away on September 1 following a prolonged, unspecified illness, according to his agent’s statement to NBC News. He was 73 years old.
“We love you, my brother greene,” the statement said. “You are finally free.”
After his passing was made public, Greene was respected within the entertainment industry for his groundbreaking portrayal of Native American actors. SAG-AFTRA, in a post on their platform (originally Twitter), stated that he “infused every role with compassion and silent strength.
Beyond being nominated for an Oscar, I’ve always been enthralled by Greene’s captivating performances. From starring in heartwarming movies like “Snow Dogs” to being a significant part of the enchanting “Twilight” saga, his roles have undeniably showcased his acting prowess and earned him a dedicated fanbase such as myself.
The Twilight series expressed on Instagram that Graham Greene left an impactful mark globally, inspiring many through his reassuring demeanor and commitment to community service. It was a privilege for us to collaborate with him, contributing to his enduring influence.
In addition to his notable television appearances, Greene was similarly honored by his co-star D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai from the show “Reservation Dogs.
On September 1, the 23-year-old expressed on Instagram that you’ve demonstrated it is possible to make a difference and leave an impression. You’re forging a path for every young indigenous actor aspiring to succeed. Thank you for recognizing my potential and imparting your wisdom during our friendship. Through our bond, you’ve taught me everything I know about this industry – a debt I can never fully repay.
He added, “I’m grateful to have worked with you, gotten to know you, and call you Uncle.”
Emmy-nominated actor Lou Diamond Phillips, who worked with Greene on numerous productions, also offered a heartfelt tribute to his “comrade.

Greene is survived by his wife, Hilary Blackmore, daughter Lilly Lazard-Greene and grandson Talo.
