Bringing Up Bates’ Carlin Bates Welcomes Baby No. 3 With Husband

Carlin Bates Stewart is bringing up another baby.

The star from the show “Bringing Up Bates” recently welcomed her third child, a daughter, alongside her husband Evan Stewart. She shared pictures of their new addition on Instagram.

In simpler terms, “The world just became a bit more gentle” or “The world softened a bit”, Carlin (who is also a mother to Layla, 5, and Zade, 3, with Evan) wrote on September 10. This indicates that their baby has arrived.

The couple chose not to share their daughter’s name, but it was humorously hinted by Carlin that she has already managed to charm Evan.

In the pure joy of becoming a mother at just 27, I couldn’t help but express my affection as I cradled my newborn daughter. As if capturing the moment on video wasn’t enough, I felt compelled to whisper into the digital ether, “My dear little one, you are already so deeply cherished.

Carlin’s recent happy announcement occurs while her elder sibling, Erin Bates Paine, is undergoing treatment for difficulties following the delivery of her seventh child, Henry, on August 25. According to Chad Paine, Erin’s husband, her labor was more prolonged and demanding compared to previous deliveries she had experienced.

In his September 1st post on Instagram, it was shared that Erin had fallen ill with a serious urinary tract infection and kidney infection, which ultimately led to septic shock.

Erin was subsequently admitted to the ICU, where she suffered a “lengthy and severe seizure.”

Even though the mother of seven has seen an improvement in her health, Chad mentioned that the path to recovery will be slow and difficult, but they are incredibly grateful for each small progress made.

It’s truly heart-wrenching to see Erin endure so much suffering, but witnessing her sing praises to God amidst it all is incredibly uplifting,” he expressed on his Instagram post dated September 9.

For Gil Bates and Kelly Bates, parents of Erin and Carlin, the past few weeks have been a emotional rollercoaster ride.

On September 10th, they shared on their Instagram Stories that they’ve had nights filled with tears, sleepless nights, and joyful nights, but despite these ups and downs, they have always felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the unwavering love that has encompassed them.

William Gilvin “Gil” Bates, South Carolina’s wrestling champion, encountered Kelly Bates (formerly Callaham), who was assigned to tutor him in Chemistry at Anderson University, a Christian liberal arts school in South Carolina. They found themselves proposing to each other in October 1987, while they were both completing their education at Carson-Newman University in Tennessee. The couple tied the knot two months later. Initially, they didn’t anticipate having a big family, but neither of them supported the use of birth control. In 2011, Gil shared with Dateline that they decided to leave the number of their children up to God, assuming they would have no more than two or three.

Zachary Bates, their eldest son, was born a year following their wedding; their 19th child and second son, Jeb Bates, came into the world in 2012. When it comes to recalling the names of their vast family, Kelly playfully remarked about Gil, who manages Bates Tree Service, “Daddy’s great at that. His memory is stronger than mine.”

Similar to his siblings, Zachary, born on December 30, 1988, received homeschooling and was a diligent student at Bill Gothard’s Institute in Basic Life Principles. His relationship with Sarah Reith was showcased on “19 Kids and Counting,” but it was Whitney Perkins who won his affection while working at Sonic Drive-In. Two months after their courtship began in 2013, he proposed, marrying that same year in December. John-David Duggar served as one of the groomsmen at the wedding. The couple later had sons Bradley (born October 2014) and Jayden (born June 2021), as well as daughters Kaci (June 2016), Khloé (November 2019), and Lily Jo (August 2023).

Besides running a family tree business, Zachary has also held positions such as a police officer, a county commissioner, and a real estate agent.

On January 23, 1990, approximately thirteen months after her elder brother’s birth, Michaela Bates Keilen began learning to sew at a young age and made many of the family’s dresses as well as supervising the laundry. Since Brandon Keilen couldn’t propose until he completed bible college, they dated for two years prior to their engagement in April 2015.

In August of their marriage, the couple established their home in Chicago, but they faced challenges in starting a family. Michaela shared her experiences with fertility issues through blog entries and videos on YouTube. Heartbreakingly, they experienced a miscarriage in 2021. However, they then took on the role of foster parents for two young boys.

In reflecting on my upbringing by my parents, I can’t recall any experiences that were harmful, Erin Bates Pain (a member of our family since May 2, 1991) shared with People. Instead, as I look back, everything seems extremely positive, and we created some unforgettable memories together.

Instead of having a TV, “we would use that time for playtime with dad,” she explained. “Or, you know, family game nights or creating lasting memories. Therefore, I never felt deprived and, in truth, I believe we became more intelligent as a result.

After marrying Charles “Chad” Stephen Paine III in 2013, they were excited to start a large family. However, due to a blood clotting disorder, they experienced several miscarriages before welcoming Carson in May 2015, Brooklyn in August 2016, Everly in May 2018, Holland in November 2019, and Finley in January 2022. Despite believing that they wouldn’t be able to have more children, they later expanded their family with William in October 2023 and Henry in August 2025. After Henry’s delivery, Erin went into septic shock, and Chad shared on Instagram that they would appreciate prayers for Erin as she recovers from the complications.

As a die-hard fan of Lawson Bates, born on the 27th of July in 1992, I’ve always been captivated by his entrepreneurial spirit, having started his own lawn-cutting business, Lawson’s Lawncare, at just 13! Rumors swirled around his connection with Jana Duggar, following a few of her Instagram interactions. However, the tables turned when he announced his engagement to Tiffany Espensen after proposing during a dreamy October 2021 getaway in Italy. “Discovering Tiffany – her heart, aspirations, and dreams – has been the most enchanting experience of my life,” the talented singer-songwriter shared with People magazine at that time, “and we’ve been crafting beautiful memories together over the past year.

The couple got married on a yacht near San Diego in May 2022, but sadly experienced a miscarriage before giving birth to their son William in July 2024. Just under a year after that, they announced they were expecting another child in 2025.

Nathan Bates was part of the family on August 29, 1993. Although his romantic journey with Ashley Salyer was showcased on ‘Bringing Up Bates’, he eventually got engaged to Esther Keyes in May 2021. They tied the knot in October of the same year, their first kiss exchanged at the altar, much like many of his siblings. Their daughter Kenna arrived a year later, and son Graham followed in October 2024. With an early dream of becoming a preacher, he has fulfilled this ambition by participating in several mission trips and serving as a first responder.

Their engagement took place in January 2014, marking the occasion at Orlando’s Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. They eventually tied the knot in May of that year. The happy couple settled down in Florida and expanded their family over the years: Alli arrived in April 2015, Lexi in January 2017, Zoey in March 2018, Maci in February 2021, and Rhett in March 2023.

Born on Dec. 20, 1995, Tori Bates Smith started dating Bobby Smith in the year 2016, a relationship showcased on their family’s reality series. They got married shortly after getting engaged, in December 2017. Tori, who graduated from Crown College of the Bible with an elementary education degree, and Bobby then had their first son, Robert IV, in November 2018. This was followed by the births of their second son, Kolter, in May 2020, daughter Charlotte in June 2021, daughter Cambree in August 2022, and their most recent addition, son Weston in May 2024.

Back in February 1997, I, Trace Bates – known as the harvester of white fields – stepped into this world. After a courtship that unfolded on TV screens, I encountered my future spouse, Lydia Romeike, thanks to my sister Josie Bates Balka. We made our engagement public on YouTube in March 2022 (I can’t help but say, Lydia is my best friend and the most uplifting part of my life). Our wedding took place in October 2022 with 350 guests including Jason Duggar, who graciously served as an usher. In October 2023, we became parents for the first time to our son Ryker. Our family expanded once again in June 2025 with the arrival of our rainbow baby, Kaia.

Carlin Bates Stewart was born on April 11, 1998. She completed her high school education simultaneously with her brother Trace after attending dual enrollment at a nearby college. Her sister Erin set up a meeting between Carlin and Evan Stewart, who announced their engagement in September 2018. They got married the following May, with Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth serving as a bridesmaid. Their first child, Layla, was born in January 2020, which was showcased on “Bringing Up Bates”. Their son Zade arrived in March 2022, and they announced the upcoming birth of their third child in February 2025.

Gil and Kelly welcomed their tenth child on August 4, 1999. She became friends with her future husband, Kelton Balka, after meeting at a piano recital in 2014; however, it wasn’t until 2017 that they started dating. They became engaged in June 2018 during a proposal captured on camera and tied the knot that same October with cameras present. They got married in December of the same year and welcomed daughter Hailey into their family in February 2023, followed by son Harvey’s arrival in September 2024. As the vibrant character often referred to as “Tigger,” born on the 19th of May, 2003, I find myself drawn to the exhilaration of sports and the melodious joy of singing. Balancing my time between my father’s excavating business and my brother-in-law Chad’s Paine Construction has become a rhythmic part of my life.

Or

Known as “Tigger” for my lively spirit, I, born on May 19, 2003, am a lover of sports and singing. My days are filled with juggling responsibilities between my father’s excavating business and my brother-in-law Chad’s Paine Construction company.

Both phrases convey the same information but may appeal to different audiences based on style and preference.

On October 16, 2004, the third musketeer made his arrival. A graduate of The Crown College, where he earned his one-year Bible Certificate for Foundations of Christian Life in 2023, he started his own lawn care business in the year 2022. He also works for both his father and brother-in-law Chad.

In an effort to remember her second chance at life, her parents incorporated additional letters into her name. By the year 2025, she had successfully completed a one-year bible study program.

As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Ellie Bates, whose name signifies a beacon of strength, officially joined the team on April 28, 2007. You can often find her gracing the camera for photoshoots at the enchanting Bates Sisters Boutique.

With the addition to the family, Jeb Bates made his arrival on February 1, 2012. Initially, he spent some time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Gil expressed to People magazine that despite having 19 children already, he was just as excited and nervous about this baby as he had been with their very first.
