I just finished rewatching *Thunderbolts* on Disney+, and there’s this one line from Valentina that still bugs me – it doesn’t quite fit with everything else we know about the MCU. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is fantastic as Valentina, and we’ve seen her pop up in *The Falcon and the Winter Soldier*, *Black Widow*, and *Black Panther: Wakanda Forever*. In *Thunderbolts*, they revealed she’s not just a CIA director, but also runs the OXE Group, the people who turned Robert Reynolds into the Sentry! And get this – she’s set up the Sentry’s new base right in the old Avengers Tower! It’s a cool reveal, but that one line still feels a bit off.
Although it was satisfying to finally see Valentina take control of Avengers Tower after so much build-up, her recent conversation with the Thunderbolts felt unclear. When the team arrived at the new Watchtower, Valentina mentioned all the ‘huge battles’ that had taken place at Avengers Tower before she took over. This is confusing because, since the tower first appeared in 2012’s *The Avengers*, only two major fights have actually happened there – hardly the number of ‘monumental fights’ she suggested.
What Monumental Fights Have Happened in the MCU’s Avengers Tower?
Valentina mentioned “all the monumental fights” in Avengers Tower, but actually, very few major battles have happened there. The tower, originally Stark Tower, first appeared in *The Avengers* movie, where the newly formed team fought Loki during the invasion of Earth. All of Loki’s fights against Iron Man, Thor, and the Hulk happened during that single battle, which was definitely significant – he even used the tower’s arc reactor to power his portal!
Following their victory over Loki at Stark Tower, the Avengers renovated the building and renamed it Avengers Tower, establishing it as their new headquarters. The 2015 film, *Avengers: Age of Ultron*, featured a fight against numerous Iron Legion drones controlled by Ultron (voiced by James Spader), a dangerous artificial intelligence with genocidal intentions. The conflict then moved to the fictional country of Sokovia, and Avengers Tower remained safe from further battles until 2025, when the Thunderbolts faced the Sentry and were decisively defeated in their own movie.
Valentina’s comment about ‘all the fights’ happening at Avengers Tower in *Thunderbolts* feels premature, considering only two major battles took place there so far. It’s a bit surprising, but given the tower is now the New Avengers’ base and will reappear in the 2026 film *Avengers: Doomsday*, it’s likely to host many more battles in the future. A showdown between the New Avengers and Doctor Doom would really solidify the idea of it being a central battleground, and hopefully, Valentina’s prediction will come true.
