The Muppet Show being revived for special episode by Hollywood star – and a series could follow

This special reunion, written by Albertina Rizzo and directed by Alex Timbers, brings the Muppets back to the Muppet Theatre to put on a variety show. Singer Sabrina Carpenter will also be appearing as a guest star.

She’ll be performing with the classic Muppets – Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and the rest of the gang – brought to life by their longtime puppeteers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel.

Disney+ announced on social media that *The Muppet Show* will be returning in 2026 with a special event, and Sabrina Carpenter will be a guest star! They shared the news with a quote from the show’s theme song: “It’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, it’s time to get things started.”

The latest Muppets production, from The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures, brings Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, and all their friends back to the Muppet Theatre. They’re putting on a lively variety show packed with music, laughs, and, as always, a lot of silly mayhem.

Alongside Carpenter, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee from Point Grey Pictures, Rizzo and Timbers also served as executive producers. David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter, and Michael Steinbach executive produced for The Muppets Studio.

Disney+ isn’t new to the Muppets! They’ve previously released Muppets projects like the unscripted ‘Muppets Now’ in 2020, a Halloween special called ‘Muppets Haunted Mansion’ in 2021, and the one-season series ‘The Muppets Mayhem’ in 2023.

A Muppets sequel series, tentatively titled Muppets Live Another Day, was planned in the late 2010s. It would have continued the story after the 1984 film *The Muppets Take Manhattan*, but the project was canceled in 2019 because of disagreements about its direction.
