Okay, so Sony is showing off a bunch of Bloodborne merch at TGS, which got me really excited for a second. But apparently, despite all that, they still aren’t planning on releasing a remake, remaster, or anything like that for the game on PS5. It’s a bit disappointing, honestly – I was hoping for a chance to play it again with some improvements!
Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb recently asked his sources about potential news regarding Bloodborne. He reported that, as of now, there are no developments with the game. He shared this information while discussing the upcoming State of Play livestream, which is rumored to be happening next week.
Okay, so Jeff Grubb is saying don’t hold your breath for any Bloodborne news – not a remake, remaster, re-release, or even a sequel. Apparently, we won’t be seeing anything Bloodborne-related at any Sony event for the foreseeable future. It’s a bummer, but that’s what he’s reporting.
Besides their current work, FromSoftware is still updating Elden Ring and developing The Duskbloods, a game exclusive to the new Nintendo Switch 2, which is planned to launch in 2026. However, neither of these projects represents their next major, standalone RPG title. We likely won’t hear about that for a few more years.
Since Sony owns the rights to Bloodborne, they could technically revive the popular PlayStation 4 game without FromSoftware’s help. Sony previously had Bluepoint Games remake Demon’s Souls for the PlayStation 5, demonstrating they can handle these projects internally for their owned properties.
Even though Sony has the power to improve it, they haven’t updated a beloved PlayStation game. While you can still play it on PS5, it’s limited to a lower, less smooth frame rate of 30 frames per second when using older game compatibility.
