Slow Horses star to lead 5’s “emotionally charged thriller” Missed Call

Joanna Scanlan, known for her roles in shows like Slow Horses and A Very Royal Scandal, will star in a new five-part thriller series for Channel 5, currently titled Missed Call.

The show takes place in France and features Claire Keim (known for ‘Vise le Coeur’), Rupert Graves (from ‘Sherlock’), François-Xavier Demaison (of ‘Disparue’), and Robert Lindsay (‘Sherwood’).

In the movie *Missed Call*, single mom Sarah’s life is thrown into chaos when she gets a missed call late at night from her daughter, Katie, who is away on a school trip to France. The story unfolds in a charming French village.

When Sarah travels to France to look for her missing daughter, Katie, she’s shocked by how little the host family and local officials seem to care. Determined to find Katie, Sarah’s investigation quickly becomes a frantic and risky struggle against the clock.

This series is a production of Pernel Media, a company based in Paris and London, and is being made with ITV Studios. It’s the second time 5 and Pernel Media have worked together, following their collaboration on ‘The Au Pair’ earlier this year.

I was completely hooked by the script for ‘Missed Call’ right from the start. It’s a really moving story – it taps into that universal fear every mother has, and the setting is just incredible, both beautiful and strangely creepy. It really got to me!

I have to say, playing Sarah is a dream. She’s such a layered, dynamic, and fiercely driven character, and I’m thrilled to be diving into this gripping, emotionally charged thriller. Honestly, collaborating with Channel 5 on a project this daring and captivating is a real treat.

Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor at 5, described “Missed Call” as a gripping and emotional thriller. He highlighted its strong international cast and the captivating story of a mother fighting against cultural differences.

Actress Kristin Scott Thomas previously played Moira Tregorian in season four of *Slow Horses*, taking over the role from Catherine Standish. With Standish now back at Slough House, and Tregorian having returned to headquarters, it’s unlikely her character will appear in the fifth season.

However, she’ll soon appear in *Riot Women*, a new BBC series created by Sally Wainwright, who also made *Happy Valley*.
