I’ve noticed anime is really taking off, and streaming services are clearly responding. The success of *Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle* in North American theaters – topping the charts for two weeks straight – is a huge indicator of just how popular it’s become. Netflix, for one, seems to have really taken notice, and they’re offering more original anime than ever before. It’s kind of surprising, but one of their biggest new anime originals just released a trailer for a live-action version!
Netflix is bringing the popular story of Taro Sakamoto to life with a new anime series called *Sakamoto Days*. Actor Ren Meguro will star as Taro, playing him in both his thin and heavier forms. The official website recently announced this exciting news!
Meguro Ren will star as Sakamoto Taro, a highly skilled assassin, in the upcoming film! The movie will be directed by the acclaimed comedy director Fukuda Yuichi, with Keiya Tabuchi serving as co-director. Meguro underwent intense training to perform incredible action sequences, promising a level of excitement never seen before. A new trailer and visual featuring Hososaki Gen have also been released, giving fans a glimpse of the film’s thrilling blend of action and everyday life.
Taro Sakamoto Lives
Meguro Ren recently shared his excitement about landing the lead role in the live-action adaptation of the popular manga and anime series, *Sakamoto Days*. He was first offered the part while filming another drama last year. Ren, who is known for serious dramatic roles, said he wanted to take on this project for personal enjoyment. He’d been a fan of *Sakamoto Days* for years, wondering if a live-action version would ever be possible – and never thinking he’d be a part of it. He’s particularly drawn to his character, Taro Sakamoto, a former legendary assassin who now prioritizes being a loving father, finding that contrast incredibly appealing and cool.
Yuichi Fukuda, known for directing anime adaptations like the live-action *Gintama* movie, *Sgt. Frog*, and *Super Salaryman Mr. Saenai*, will direct the film. It’s currently scheduled to be released in Japan in 2026, but there’s no word yet on when it will be available in North America.
What are your thoughts on the live-action adaptation of *Sakamoto Days*? Share your opinion in the comments and discuss it with other fans in the ComicBook Forum!
