Warning: SPOILERS for the NCIS: Tony & Ziva episode “We’ve Got Company” are ahead!
Last year, Michael Weatherly, the star and executive producer of NCIS: Tony & Ziva, mentioned that Tony and Ziva’s daughter, Tali, would be central to the plot. While we’ve seen young Tali in flashbacks, we haven’t seen much of Isla Gie’s portrayal of the present-day character since the show’s beginning. That changed with the premiere of “We’ve Got Company” on Paramount+, and now I think I understand how she played a role in her parents’ separation.
Present-Day Tali And Sophie Ended Up In Danger
I was so worried about Tali while Tony and Ziva were on the run in Europe! Thankfully, she was with Sophie, her nanny, who turned out to be a former MI6 agent – talk about reassuring! They were staying in a remote cabin with no Wi-Fi, and Sophie was smart about not letting Tali use a phone, just in case enemies tried to trace them. It was tough when Tali’s tablet finally died, and she had nothing to do. But then, she found an old smartwatch her dad had left on a previous visit, which gave her something to tinker with – I’m really curious about that little detail, actually!
Paramount+ offers two main plans: Essential, starting at $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year, and a Premium, ad-free plan with more content for $12.99 a month. You can also save money by choosing an annual plan, paying for 12 months but only being charged for 10. With either plan, you can exclusively stream NCIS: Tony & Ziva. See the deal here.
Tali accidentally connected the watch to the phone network when she tried to play a game, which quickly led Martine and Jonah Markham’s henchmen to find her and Sophie. They faced a lot of danger, including a near-fatal hornet sting for Sophie and being forced to escape the panic room, but they ultimately made it through unharmed. Sophie used her fighting skills to take down most of the attackers, Tali stunned one with a taser, and Claudette arrived just in time to shoot the man who was about to harm Sophie.
Tony and Ziva arrived at the cabin shortly after the safe house was compromised. Tali and Claudette are now staying with them and the rest of the team. Ziva feels Tali is safer with them, but Tony, still grieving the loss of his friend Henry, isn’t so sure. While it seems unlikely Tali will be killed, she’ll probably face danger again in the future.
Flashback Tali Had A Close Call With A Gun
In the episode “We’ve Got Company,” a flashback revealed Tony and Ziva’s first trip to the cabin with Tali in August 2020. When Tali went inside ahead of them, she found a gun hidden under a table and began looking at it. Tony and Ziva were immediately worried and quickly took the gun from her. It turned out the cabin was one of Ziva’s old safe houses, and she’d accidentally left the gun behind after her last check.
Tony and Ziva had a heated argument about a recent event, stemming from their shared desire to raise their daughter differently than Ziva had been raised. Ziva later told their daughter, Tali, that while she kept guns for protection, she didn’t want Tali to feel she needed them. It makes me wonder, though, if that frightening incident with the gun also contributed to Tony and Ziva calling off their engagement years ago.

I don’t think Tali’s parents’ divorce was directly her fault. Instead, I suspect Ziva’s past trauma and her complex feelings for Tony led her to realize she wasn’t emotionally ready for a romantic relationship with him. It’s also important to remember that Tony wasn’t truthful with Ziva during their therapy retreat with Dr. Lang, creating a relationship built on dishonesty.
With Tony and Ziva sharing a kiss recently, it seems like they might finally be rekindling their relationship. Many fans, including those who remember their daughter Tali, would be happy to see them together. In fact, Cote de Pablo asked for a positive outcome for her and Michael Weatherly’s characters before agreeing to appear in *NCIS: Tony & Ziva*. I’m excited to find out what caused their initial split as the new episodes are released on Paramount+.
