Tired of Hecate Turning You Into a Sheep in Hades 2? This Trick Can Help

With *Hades 2* now fully released, both new and returning players are jumping in to experience the complete game. Whether you’ve been playing since Early Access or are just starting, figuring out the best way to defeat the challenging bosses is a key part of the fun. Hecate is the first Guardian boss you’ll face, and she has some surprising attacks. Her most frustrating move is probably turning you into a slow-moving sheep! It might seem unavoidable, but I’ve discovered a strategy to keep your quick reflexes and avoid being turned into a sheep during her boss fight.

In *Hades 2*, Hecate acts as a mentor and mother figure to Melinoe. That’s why it might be unexpected when you first reach Erebus and find her guarding a door. Hecate’s role is to test your abilities and ensure you’re prepared for the challenges ahead. While most of her attacks are manageable once you learn the battle pattern, being turned into a helpless sheep (or even a pig later on) can be tricky. As a sheep, you’ll have trouble dodging attacks and can’t fight back against Hecate’s enemies. Luckily, Melinoe can avoid this spell with the help of a cute little frog named Frinos.

How to Unlock Familiars in Hades 2

In *Hades 2*, Melinoe can team up with animal companions, called familiars, who will fight alongside her. You’ll first meet Frinos, a cute frog, who usually waits near your respawn point after each run. Surprisingly, this little frog is the key to avoiding a tricky transformation curse from Hecate. Each familiar has unique skills that help in both combat and gathering resources. Frinos, for example, can even take damage for you! While other familiars you unlock later on are useful, only Frinos can protect you from turning into a sheep or pig.

If you want to bring Frinos with you on your nighttime adventures, you’ll need to learn a special spell. Hecate will teach you the spell, called Faith of Familiar Spirits, but you’ll have to beat her in battle several times first – even with her sheep spell! Once she does, you’ll be able to safely take Frinos with you on all your future travels.

The Faith of Familiar Spirits incantation requires the following ingredients:

  • 2 Nectar
  • 1 Lotus Flower

You can get Nectar by finishing specific challenges, or you can buy it from the Wretched Broker. Sometimes, Charon sells it too. Lotus Flowers grow randomly in Oceanus and can be collected when you find them.

After finishing the spell, give Frinos a treat by choosing the “Bond” option. You’ll then find Frinos waiting for you in the room just before the entrance to the Underworld. Choose him as your companion for the night, and he’ll shield you from certain attacks, like the spell that summons Hecate’s sheep.

How to Get Frinos to Block Hecate’s Sheep Spell

Simply having Frinos with you won’t completely protect you from the sheep spell – you’ll also need quick reactions and some good luck. She casts the spell right after creating her protective barrier. When you see that barrier go up, make sure Frinos is close by, and then quickly run behind them to avoid the spell.

If you position him to take the hit, he should absorb the spell instead of you. This will keep both you and your frog companion safe, allowing you to continue defeating Hecate’s minions and eventually make her vulnerable to attack. It’s not a guaranteed solution, but it can make the boss battles with Hecate much easier as you progress deeper into Tartarus.
