A beloved and long-standing character is leaving Coronation Street on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025. This departure is sure to be emotional for many fans of the show.
It’s been clear for a while that Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) was going to leave, but we didn’t know the specifics of *how* or *when* that would happen.
Jenny had started to fall for the nice George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley); however, unfortunately for her, he was becoming increasingly attracted to Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins).
On Monday, September 29th, Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) had a fall. Jenny rushed her to the hospital, and then told George a white lie, making Rita seem sicker than she really was.

Now that Jenny had successfully gained his sympathy, she believed she was finally starting to dominate the situation with Christina.
As the ITV soap opera goes on, George stops by with some soup for Rita. Jenny, wanting to keep George from discovering she gave him false information, makes sure he doesn’t catch sight of Rita.
Later, though, Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) tells George that Rita has only a sprained ankle.
How will George react to Jenny’s deception?
I have to say, watching Jenny was tough. She was clearly ashamed as she apologized to Rita, admitting she’d used her just to get closer to George. It turns out, she also confided that a big part of it was simply enjoying the attention. It felt like a really raw and honest moment, even if it was a bit uncomfortable to watch. Definitely a turning point for these characters, I think.
While chatting openly with George and Rita, Jenny fondly remembers her days living in Weatherfield and her extensive experience working behind the bar at the Rovers.
The story includes clever nods to the iconic pub landlady, Bet Lynch (played by Julie Goodyear), who Jenny previously worked for when she was first on the show from 1986 to 1991.
Jenny quickly comes to an important decision regarding her future, and this leads to deeply emotional moments shared between her and Rita, who has always been a maternal figure in her life.
Saying goodbye is tough, and Matthews and Knox deliver powerful performances. But will Jenny leave things on a positive note?
In 2015, Matthews came back to Coronation Street permanently. Her storyline included a kidnapping, the revelation that she had lost a son named Tom when he was young, and the heartbreaking death of her husband, Johnny (played by Richard Hawley).
As a longtime viewer, I remember Jenny getting caught right in the middle of things when Stephen Reid (played by Todd Boyce) made his final, desperate stand. It was intense, to say the least! She really found herself at the heart of the action, and it was so gripping to watch.
Having been the landlady at the Rovers for quite a while, Jenny always made things fun behind the bar, and we’re going to miss her a lot.
