Marvel’s upcoming Blade movie has faced a lot of challenges since it was first announced. Everyone was thrilled when Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali signed on to play the lead role, and he even made a brief vocal appearance in the movie Eternals. But since then, the film has struggled to get off the ground, with several changes in directors and writers causing major delays and ultimately leading to its removal from the release calendar. Some rumors suggest Marvel might abandon the solo Blade film altogether and instead focus on a team-up movie called Midnight Sons, featuring Ghost Rider as the leader. While it’s unclear what the future holds for the live-action version of Blade, fans recently got a good look at the character in action through his debut in the animated series Marvel Zombies.
To promote the new animated series *Marvel Zombies*, Marvel Studios revealed a character poster for Blade, detailing his unique abilities. This version of Blade has been empowered by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, combining his skills with those of Moon Knight. The poster emphasizes Blade’s incredible agility, but also points out that his reliance on swords makes him less effective against enemies with armor and limits how far he can reach in a fight.
As a huge movie fan, I found something really interesting in the animated *Blade* series. They actually showed a weakness in his fighting style – he struggles against armored opponents. And it got me thinking, that weakness would *totally* apply to the main MCU Blade too, since he uses the same fighting techniques. Actually, it would be *worse* for him! The animated version got a boost from Khonshu, but MCU Blade doesn’t have that divine power-up. It makes sense why he hasn’t been involved in bigger battles so far, and it could explain why he might sit out the upcoming multiversal war in *Avengers: Doomsday*. Seriously, if your main attack doesn’t work on armor, what good are you against a guy like Doctor Doom, who’s basically *always* wearing a metal suit? It’s a clever little detail that adds a lot to the character, in my opinion.
Where Is Blade Most Likely to Appear Next in the MCU?
Fans were excited to see Blade in *Marvel Zombies*, but it’s uncertain when he’ll appear next in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. *Avengers: Doomsday* is already packed with characters, and introducing Blade into such a busy movie wouldn’t give him the spotlight he deserves after such a long wait. It’s more likely we’ll see a different version of Blade appear first. Wesley Snipes, who recently returned as Blade in *Deadpool & Wolverine*, could logically reappear in *Avengers: Secret Wars*, a film expected to bring together characters from across Marvel’s movie history. The animated Blade from *Marvel Zombies*, with his connection to the Egyptian god Khonshu, could also transition to live-action for this big crossover event.
Mahershala Ali’s version of Blade will probably appear in the next big storyline after the current Multiverse Saga ends. It’s rumored that this new saga will focus more on supernatural and mystical villains, and characters like Mephisto are expected to be important. This would be a great way to finally introduce Blade into the MCU.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
As a huge MCU fan, I’ve been wondering how they’re going to seamlessly fit Blade into the existing timeline. It’s a big question, and I’d love to hear everyone else’s thoughts! Let’s discuss it over on the ComicBook Forum – come share your theories now!
