Netflix added a popular sci-fi trilogy this week, offering something for viewers of all ages. While many of Netflix’s sci-fi films are geared toward adults, this new series is more family-friendly, making it easy for different generations to enjoy together. Fans were clearly excited about the release, as all three movies quickly climbed to the top of Netflix’s most-watched list.
All three *Maze Runner* movies are now available on Netflix! Subscribers can now watch *The Maze Runner* (2014), *Maze Runner: Scorch Trials* (2015), and *Maze Runner: The Death Cure* (2018), which are all based on the young adult novels by James Dashner.
All three *Maze Runner* films quickly became popular on Netflix, appearing on the Top 10 Movies list the day they were added. The first movie topped the chart, even surpassing the popular *KPop Demon Hunters*. *Maze Runner: Scorch Trials* is currently at number five, and *Maze Runner: The Death Cure* is ninth.
The Maze Runner Is a Top-Tier Adaptation
The *Maze Runner* films might not be considered sci-fi classics, but they deserve recognition as strong adaptations. Similar to *The Hunger Games* movies, Wes Ball’s films successfully stayed faithful to the original books while also adding some fresh ideas when it worked well.
The 2010s saw a surge in popularity for young adult novels, leading to many film adaptations. However, most of these movies didn’t live up to the quality of the books. Several potential franchises failed to launch (like *Beautiful Creatures* and *Vampire Academy*), and others were cancelled mid-series (*Divergent*). While *Twilight* and *Harry Potter* kicked off the trend, and *The Hunger Games* remains the most successful adaptation, *Maze Runner* deserves to be mentioned among the best. The *Maze Runner* films successfully told a complete story and showcased a talented young cast who went on to have successful careers.
Dylan O’Brien continues to be incredibly charming in these films, showing everyone he has leading-man potential – he would have been a fantastic Spider-Man, for example. While Kayla Scodelario is also strong throughout the series, Will Poulter and Thomas Brodie-Sangster really stand out as the most impressive performers.
If you haven’t read or seen The Maze Runner, it’s a dystopian series similar to The Hunger Games and The Long Walk. It centers on a group of teenagers who wake up with no memories and must navigate a huge maze to survive. The first movie leads to a much larger story, expanding the world and setting up a major rebellion.
As a huge movie fan, I’m excited to see all three *Maze Runner* films are now on Netflix! It feels like the perfect time to finally watch the whole series from start to finish and get completely lost in the adventure.
