Warning: SPOILERS for the Peacemaker Season 2 finale are ahead!
With *Peacemaker* Season 2 finished, the next DC TV series on the way is *Lanterns*, the first live-action show centered around Green Lantern since the 2011 film with Ryan Reynolds. While *Peacemaker* and *Lanterns* might seem unrelated, James Gunn, who leads DC Studios and created *Peacemaker*, has hinted at a connection between the two shows. This makes me hopeful that a well-known Green Lantern character from the comics will appear in either *Lanterns* or another DC Universe project.
How Peacemaker And Lanterns Are Connected
The season finale of *Peacemaker*, titled “Full Nelson,” revealed two major plot points: the discovery of a world called Salvation by A.R.G.U.S., and the formation of the Checkmate team by Peacemaker and his allies. According to James Gunn in an interview with Screen Brief, both of these developments will play a role in future DC Universe television series.
I found that shows like ‘Lanterns’ really tie into the bigger picture. At first glance, you might not see the connection, but trust me, it’s all surprisingly interwoven. It adds a lot to the overall experience when you realize how everything connects.
I initially wondered if characters like Hal Jordan or John Stewart from the Green Lantern Corps might ever come to Salvation. But it’s crucial to remember that Salvation isn’t just a planet—it’s one of many dimensions you can reach using the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. While the Green Lanterns can easily travel between planets, even their powerful willpower energy isn’t enough to cross the multiverse. I’m curious to see how the story in the Lanterns series will explain Salvation’s place in everything.

James Gunn has described Checkmate as a unique organization within the DC Universe, existing outside of the government, major corporations, superhero teams like the Justice League, and typical supervillain groups. First appearing in DC Comics in 1988, Checkmate operates as a secret agency and has, in recent years, been connected to the United Nations Security Council. The organization has a history of including superheroes among its members, and one of them would be a perfect addition to the *Lanterns* series.
Could We See Alan Scott In The DCU?
Alan Scott first appeared as the Green Lantern in 1940, in issue #16 of All-American Comics. Unlike later Green Lanterns, his power comes from magic, not technology. Though he’s teamed up with many Green Lanterns over the years, he’s most recognized as a founding member of the Justice Society. He also had a short stint with the organization Checkmate, where he served as the White King to Sasha Bordeaux’s Black Queen.

Now that Checkmate is part of the DC Universe, I’m excited about the possibility of Alan Scott joining the team. To avoid confusing fans, he might not be presented as a Green Lantern – perhaps explaining why he isn’t part of the main Green Lantern group. Alternatively, the story could show that he’s retired from superhero work following the breakup of the Justice Society.
It would be really cool to see this character join Checkmate and help it evolve into the organization it is in the comics. Hopefully, the writers can find a good balance, because I can easily imagine him using his magic ring to fight crime at Checkmate headquarters, even while dressed in civilian clothes.
While it might be wishful thinking to see Alan Scott in the first season of *Lanterns*, fans are hoping he’ll appear if the show gets a second season. The first episodes are expected to premiere on HBO in early 2026, along with new movies featuring *Supergirl* and *Clayface*.
