I Think The Conjuring TV Spinoff Is Exactly What the Franchise Has Needed

The *Conjuring* series, while once a major force in horror, has lost some of its impact. Starting with the 2013 film by James Wan, the franchise follows Ed and Lorraine Warren – real-life paranormal investigators – as they explore haunted locations and demonic events in the 70s and 80s. Spin-offs like *Annabelle* and *The Nun* have broadened the universe, but the core *Conjuring* films have become predictable. A new TV series could be just what the franchise needs to regain its spark and offer a fresh take on these spooky stories.

HBO Max is developing a TV series based on *The Conjuring* universe. Nancy Won will lead the show as showrunner, with Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires writing the scripts, according to *Variety*. The new series comes after *The Conjuring: Last Rites*, the latest film which didn’t quite recapture the frightening atmosphere of earlier installments. While details about the plot are still under wraps, many hope this series will breathe new life into the franchise.

The Conjuring‘s Upcoming TV Series Can Change the Franchise for the Better

The *Conjuring* series, while initially terrifying, has shifted away from genuinely scary storytelling. The first two movies created a truly unsettling and frightening experience. *The Conjuring* expertly built tension as the Warrens investigated a haunted farmhouse, and *The Conjuring 2* continued this success with its creepy atmosphere and frightening imagery, focusing on a girl possessed by a malevolent spirit. More recent installments, however, have relied too heavily on overly dramatic moments and predictable jump scares.

As a horror fan, I really appreciate that the earlier *Conjuring* films felt genuinely scary and also gave us a good look at Ed and Lorraine Warren’s relationship. That combination worked *so* well! But honestly, the more recent ones, like *The Devil Made Me Do It* and *Last Rites*, just haven’t delivered the same gut-punch scares. And let’s be real, *Annabelle* and *The Nun* were pretty weak – thankfully, they seem to be the only real missteps in what’s otherwise a fairly decent franchise.

Moving *The Conjuring* to a TV series format opens up exciting possibilities for building a richer, more detailed world of horror and suspense. Whether or not Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as Ed and Lorraine Warren, the show will likely be able to delve deeper into characters and deliver consistently scary stories – something the movies haven’t always managed. The series can succeed by introducing fresh faces, bringing back familiar ones, and exploring previously untold paranormal events.

As a huge fan of *The Conjuring* universe, I’m really excited about the potential of the upcoming TV show to address what I always felt was a bit of a rush in the films. They always tried to cram so much – the family’s life and then a seriously scary haunting – into just two hours. With a longer format, like eight episodes, they can really take their time and flesh out the story. I’m hoping this will give us a truly immersive and terrifying experience, letting the scares build naturally and giving the characters the development they deserve. It could be a really well-rounded and genuinely frightening series!

The Conjuring Franchise Has Grown Stale and Needs a New Plan

Franchises eventually become stale if they don’t find new and creative ways to keep audiences engaged, and the *Conjuring* Universe is starting to feel that way. The slow pace of *The Last Rites* isn’t very encouraging, but an upcoming *Conjuring* TV series offers a potential path forward. While details about the show’s plot and actors are still unknown, I’m hopeful it can breathe new life into the series.

If you want to see how a TV series can successfully revive a franchise, look at *Alien: Earth*. It’s brilliantly expanded the story and world of *Alien*. The *Conjuring* Universe has the potential to do the same with its upcoming HBO Max series. I’ve been a fan of *The Conjuring* movies for twelve years, and I’m hoping this new series will be a strong return to form after some recent disappointments.
