Since its launch last week, the team at Battlefield Studios has been focused on fixing bugs in *Battlefield 6*. Now, they’re dealing with new problems related to how guns work in the multiplayer game. Players have reported bullets seemingly disappearing without hitting their targets – often called “ghost bullets” – and lead game designer Florian Le Bihan is asking for more information. He wants to know if the issue happens consistently, and which weapons and attachments players were using when it occurred.
The issue was discovered by some players where, despite the game indicating that a target was hit by a bullet, complete with blood coming out of them as an indicator, the game itself wouldn’t acknowledge the hit by reducing the target’s health. Players on the Battlefield 6 subreddit have jokingly started referring to this issue as their guns being filled with blank bullets. Others have taken to calling them ghost bullets.
Le Bihan announced on social media that they are looking into a problem where players see visual cues of a successful hit – like blood splatters – but the game doesn’t register the damage in the heads-up display.
This problem appears to be linked to a recoil bug first noticed during the game’s beta test in August. While Le Bihan has confirmed the original recoil bug is now fixed, he explained that fixing it revealed two new issues affecting how bullets spread in *Battlefield 6*. One of these new issues is likely causing the ‘ghost bullets’ phenomenon.
A problem discovered during the beta test of *Battlefield 6* involved the game’s recoil system. Normally, the more you shoot, the harder it becomes to aim accurately, with bullets scattering further from the target. Players usually need to pause briefly between bursts of fire to let their aim reset. However, a bug was causing the recoil to *not* reset, making it difficult to hit targets because bullets would continue to spray wildly.
Since *Battlefield 6* launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on October 10th, the developers at Battlefield Studios have been upfront about the problems players are experiencing and how they’re working to fix them. Recently, they announced they were adjusting the game’s servers to improve matchmaking in the new Breakthrough mode, ensuring matches fill up more reliably.
It’s not surprising to see these problems appearing so quickly, considering the strong initial interest in *Battlefield 6*. A recent report from Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliot shows the game sold over 6.5 million copies in under a week, earning EA more than $350 million in revenue.
We’ve resolved the initial Beta bug, but have discovered two new issues affecting how spread or bloom appears in the game. This can cause increased spread at times. Our team is currently working on a fix and also evaluating the overall balance and tuning of the spread mechanic.

We are looking into a problem where the target appears to be hit – you can see visual effects like blood – but the game doesn’t register the hit on the screen (like a missing health bar update or hit marker).
