Dakota Johnson would not like a date to walk a mile in these.
The actress from Materialists shared a dating dealbreaker: a certain type of shoe.
Dakota Johnson jokingly advised people to avoid men who wear flip-flops. She shared this opinion during Vogue’s October 21st digital series, “Questions from Everywhere.”
She also admitted that she’s also not a fan of cologne or scents on anyone for that matter.
“I’m not a fan,” the Madame Web actress said. “I have a very particular way I experience people’s scents, and it’s happening right now with everyone around me.”
Dakota Johnson is open about relationship advice. The actress, who recently ended her eight-year relationship with Chris Martin in July, has previously discussed the qualities she doesn’t want in a partner.
During a July 9th interview on Today, the actress explained she wasn’t trying to be unkind. Her Materialists co-star, Chris Evans – who is married to Alba Baptista – immediately agreed, saying, “That’s perfect. Exactly!”
Dakota Johnson quickly responded after news broke about her split from Coldplay’s lead singer. He shares two children, Apple Martin, 21, and Moses Martin, 19, with his former wife, Gwyneth Paltrow.
Even before their split, rumors had been circulating about the couple – who started dating in 2017 – heading for a breakup. However, a representative for them denied these rumors in August 2024, telling TopMob News that the reports were false and that they were still happily together.
Prior to the split, Dakota offered rare insight into her dating life—or lack thereof.
Dakota recently shared with Elle that while she’s had relationships, she’s never tried dating apps. She found the world of online dating both fascinating and a little unsettling, noting that while it can highlight the best in people, it can also reveal the worst. She described falling in love as both a terrifying and wonderful experience.

Dakota Johnson had a memorable moment on TV when she playfully questioned Ellen DeGeneres about why she hadn’t come to her 30th birthday party.
During a 2019 episode of her talk show, Ellen DeGeneres joked she hadn’t been invited to something. Dakota Johnson quickly and playfully corrected her, saying, “That’s not actually true, Ellen.”
The actress explained that Ellen had previously criticized her for not being invited to the show, so Dakota made a point of being on the guest list this time.
“I didn’t even know you liked me,” Dakota told Ellen. “I did invite you, but you didn’t come.”
Four years after her interview with Ellen went viral, Dakota Johnson admitted to L’Officiel that the experience still bothered her, saying, “It will haunt me.”
Years after the last Fifty Shades of Grey movie came out, Dakota Johnson openly discussed her time filming the series. She explained that author E.L. James had significant control over the creative process and insisted on specific scenes and choices.
She explained to Vanity Fair in 2022 that some elements of the books wouldn’t translate well to film, specifically the character’s internal thoughts, which she sometimes found overly sentimental. This led to frequent disagreements with both the studio and the director, creating a chaotic atmosphere on set. She described it as ‘mayhem all the time’.
Dakota feels that if everyone had known how the project would turn out, no one would have agreed to participate.
As she noted, “It would’ve been like, ‘Oh, this is psychotic.'”
E.L. has not publicly responded to Dakota’s comments.
Okay, so you will NOT believe this, but it all started with limes! It was during Dakota’s Architectural Digest house tour back in 2020, and she was just showing off her kitchen. Then, she saw this bowl of limes and just… lost it. She was like, ‘I love limes. I love them so much!’ and how she likes to display them. It sounds silly, but the clip went absolutely viral! I’ve rewatched it a million times, honestly. It’s just…peak Dakota, you know? Her lime appreciation is everything!
However, Dakota later admitted that it was all “set dressing.”
She revealed on The Tonight Show in 2021 that she’s allergic to limes, which is why she pretended she wasn’t.
Okay, so when the Madame Web trailer first came out last November, everyone immediately started talking about this one line Dakota Johnson delivers. Seriously, it’s burned into my brain! She says, ‘He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died,’ and the way she says it… it’s just so flat, so… mesmerizingly monotone. I’ve rewatched that clip like a hundred times. It’s become a whole thing online, and honestly, I’m here for it! It’s the most fascinating part of the trailer, and I can’t stop thinking about it.
I remember when that phrase blew up online – it was everywhere! But honestly, Dakota didn’t even seem to get it, which was hilarious. The fact that she was confused about why it was so popular became a meme itself – it was a truly meta moment, and I couldn’t stop laughing!
When an interviewer brought up the meme, she asked calmly, “I really don’t know why it became so popular.”
Dakota added of her viral line, “That seems like a basic storyline to me.”
Dakota Johnson, daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, recently shared her thoughts on the discussion about celebrities with famous parents, often called “nepo babies.” In a February 2024 interview with Today, she said she initially found the whole debate “incredibly annoying and boring.”
Dakota Johnson jokingly revealed that she once removed her hair extensions at a Hollywood party and gave them away to other guests, sharing the story while chatting with Andrew Garfield about running into each other at events.
Okay, so picture this: I’d be at these parties, maybe had a little too much to drink, and honestly? I’d just grab them. Those little things are SO irritating, you have no idea! I’d stuff them into the pockets of guys’ jackets – just find somewhere, anywhere, to get them out of my sight. It sounds crazy, I know, but I couldn’t help it!
Above all else, Dakota (understandably) puts sleep as “my number one priority in life.”
She told WSJ. Magazine in December 2023 that she needs at least 10 hours of sleep to function well, and can often stay awake for 14 hours.
Dakota Johnson playfully showed off just how much she can fit between her teeth in a 2017 video, answering the popular question of “How much stuff can Dakota Johnson fit in her gap teeth?”
Among the objects included a toothpick, a credit card and $1100 in cash.
“That’s my only skill,” she quipped in the clip, adding, “Dad, are you watching this?”
