Crunchyroll has unexpectedly removed a popular, older anime series, making it difficult to watch legally. While Crunchyroll is known for adding lots of new anime each season, many subscribers also enjoy the platform’s collection of classic shows – some of which aren’t readily available elsewhere.
It appears the anime series Claymore is no longer available on Crunchyroll. Several users, including @MangaAlerts on X, have noticed its removal from the streaming service. While it’s still accessible through Crunchyroll’s partnerships with platforms like YouTube Premium and Roku at the moment, that access is likely temporary if the anime has been fully removed from Crunchyroll’s library.
What Happens With Claymore Now?
Currently, Claymore isn’t available to stream on Crunchyroll because their licensing agreement has ended. This is common with streaming platforms – licenses for shows often expire, and sometimes popular titles are temporarily removed. While you can still buy episodes or seasons on platforms like Apple TV, streaming is much more convenient, and Claymore is affected by this situation until a new agreement is reached.
The Claymore franchise is facing a setback as it prepares for a revival. A new live-action series based on Norihiro Yagi’s original manga is in development with Masi Oka (known for his role in Heroes). While the series aims to stay true to the action and moral complexities of the manga and anime, details have been scarce since its announcement earlier this spring.
What Is Claymore?
Norihigo Yagi began creating Claymore in 2001 for Shueisha’s Monthly Shonen Jump magazine. It became his longest-running series, introducing readers to a grim and imaginative fantasy world. The story centers on the Claymores – a group of powerful, superhuman warriors – and follows their struggles against dangerous monsters, ultimately leading them toward tragic fates.
The anime series, which had 26 episodes, ended differently than the original manga. Unfortunately, it’s currently leaving streaming platforms, making it harder for fans to watch. While disappointing, there’s hope it will become available again in the future.
