Okay, so their time on Dancing With the Stars wasn’t as long as I wanted, but honestly, watching Scott and Rylee dance… it completely changed me! I’m obsessed, and I know they’ve been changed for good too. It was magical, even if it didn’t last as long as I hoped!

Following their elimination on the ABC competition show on October 21st – after performing during the *Wickedthemed night – Scott expressed his gratitude, saying, “This experience has meant everything to me, and I’m incredibly thankful.”

“Rylee is my favorite person ever,” he added. “I had so much fun. I learned so much.”

“I’m so proud of how well you played this season,” Rylee said. “You were an amazing partner, and I love you.”

Scott and Rylee performed a Contemporary dance to “The Wizard and I” on the show. However, after fan votes from the last two weeks were tallied – totaling 100 million – they were eliminated.

Director Jon M. Chu—known for his work on the upcoming Wicked film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande—served as a guest judge on season 34 of the show, alongside Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli. The contestants performed routines set to music from Chu’s movies.

Everyone was eagerly looking forward to the latest episode of Wicked after the big surprise revealed during last week’s Dedication Night. Because the previous episode was so impactful, no one was voted off.

On the Oct. 14 show, the celebrity contestants honored their loved ones with a dance.

Alix Earle and her dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy, who have consistently received high scores this season, performed a contemporary dance to Coldplay’s “Sparks.” They dedicated the performance to Alix’s 12-year-old sister, Izabel, who is the oldest of the three children her father, Thomas “TJ” Earle, shares with his wife, Ashley Dupré.

Alix, 24, told TopMob News that despite being the older sister, her sibling has often felt like a mentor to her. She explained that her sister helped her grow up quickly and taught her valuable life lessons, something Alix deeply appreciates and believes is rare to find.

During the show, Scott and Rylee danced a Foxtrot to “Parallel,” a solo song by Pentatonix singer Mark Hoying, as a tribute to him. They also shared some happy news: they are expecting a child!

“We’re having a baby,” Mark told Rylee in a pre-performance video. “Our surrogate is pregnant!”

Besides Alix, the celebrities still competing on Dancing With the Stars are Jordan Chiles, Robert Irwin, Whitney Leavitt, Danielle Fisher, Dylan Efron, Jennifer Affleck, Elaine Hendrix, and Andy Richter.

Scott is the latest contestant to leave the competition, joining Baron Davis, Corey Feldman, Lauren Jauregui, and Hilaria Baldwin who have already been eliminated.

In 2019, Variety reported that contestants on Dancing With the Stars initially earn around $125,000 for rehearsals and the first two weeks of the show, with payouts increasing weekly if they continue. Sources at the time estimated a maximum earning of $295,000.

However, Bobby Bones, who won season 27 with Sharna Burgess in 2018, claimed he earned significantly more.

On Jason Tartick’s Trading Secrets podcast in September 2025, Bones revealed the pay structure: no money for the first episode, $10,000 for the second, then increasing to $10,000, $20,000, and eventually $50,000 per episode if a contestant lasts. Combined with a base salary of around $110,000, Bones said he made nearly $400,000 from his time on the show.

ABC has not officially confirmed these figures.

Details about how much the professional dancers earn aren’t widely available. However, like the celebrity contestants, it appears their pay increases the further they progress in the competition.

Even if a pro dancer is eliminated early on, they still receive a guaranteed payment.

“You’re guaranteed payment for a certain number of weeks,” Jenna Johnson explained on the June 2025 episode of Kelly Stafford and Hank Winchester’s podcast, The Morning After. “But contracts vary, so I can’t speak for everyone.”

It seems professional dancers on Dancing with the Stars don’t earn extra money for winning the show, despite what many believe. While winning the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy is a great honor, the real financial incentive is making it to the finale. As professional dancer Cheryl Johnson explained on The Morning After, getting to the end of the season guarantees full pay, plus a bonus. Winning doesn’t come with a large cash prize to split with a celebrity partner—it’s mostly about the trophy!

Okay, so everyone keeps saying things are great for the dancers, but that’s just… not true. I was listening to an old episode of Trading Secrets, and Lindsay Arnold actually said her pay was cut way down – like, more than half! – when they moved her from being a pro to just a troupe member. It’s awful! It just proves they don’t value the dancers the way they should.

Professional dancers have very little say in who they’re paired with on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ Lindsay explained on the ‘Hot Smart Rich’ podcast that pairings are simply assigned, and dancers are expected to make it work. Jenna added on ‘The Morning After’ that the pairings are usually kept secret until the last minute to capture a genuine reaction. Dancers don’t even know who their partner is until they meet them, and the show tries to keep the cast list confidential, despite frequent leaks. According to former showrunner Rob Wade, the show considers height, body type, personality, and compatibility when making matches. They avoid pairing people who are likely to clash, as the competition is intense enough without adding personal conflict. Unlike shows like ‘The Bachelor,’ ‘Dancing With the Stars’ aims to create a positive experience for everyone involved, and they’ve learned from past mistakes where incompatible pairings led to miserable experiences for the celebrity, the show’s team, and the viewers.

Dancing with the Stars demands a huge time commitment. Rylee Arnold, who danced with Stephen Nedoroscik in season 33, explained on the Lightweights Podcast With Joe Vulpis that rehearsals typically last four hours, happening either from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., or 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. But the work doesn’t end there – she often spends additional time with producers, perfecting choreography, or studying dance routines.

She says her life is completely dedicated to the show, but she loves it and finds it fulfilling. It’s a job that requires constant effort, with rehearsals happening Tuesday through Sunday after each performance. Mondays are spent preparing for camera shots, and then the cycle begins again with another show on Tuesday.

Emma Slater and Britt Stewart shared in a September 2025 Instagram video that they were mostly in agreement, but it involved working together with the show’s producers.

If you think the quickstep dance is fast-paced, you should see how quickly the costume department works! Costume designer Daniela Gschwendtner explained to TV Insider that they collaborate with set, lighting, and dance teams to develop a unique story for each dancer’s outfit. Then, they have just five days – often only half a day per costume, before adding rhinestones – to create everything. The department employs around 20 people, plus a separate tailoring team, making it a large operation.

Steven Norman Lee, another costume designer, revealed that dancers often don’t try on their costumes until just hours before the show. While they might occasionally re-use pants for male dancers, most costumes are made from scratch each week.

Gschwendtner added that while they do re-use items for group performances or promotional shoots, they avoid doing so for the competition itself. They strive to provide each dancer with a fresh, new look every week to keep things exciting.
