One of the producers behind the Ant-Man films is now set to work on a major movie within Marvel’s Phase 7. Though Phase 7 is still in its planning stages and won’t be seen for a couple of years, Marvel Studios is already assembling the creative teams for these future projects.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Stephen Broussard, a Vice President of Production & Development at Marvel Studios, is joining the upcoming X-Men reboot as a producer.
Stephen Broussard started at Marvel Studios as an assistant to Kevin Feige, before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) really took off. He became the first in-house producer at Marvel Studios to receive a “produced by” credit on a film—Ant-Man and the Wasp—recognizing his experience and significant contribution. Broussard is now part of the Marvel Studios Parliament, a key group of the studio’s most experienced producers who are responsible for brainstorming and developing ideas for future MCU movies and TV series.
Paul Broussard is most recognized for his contributions to the films Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania (2023). These are just two of the twelve projects he’s worked on throughout his career, which also includes a 2013 Marvel short film starring Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery. Marvel Studios is officially starting work on its first X-Men movie as part of its future plans (Phase 7). Jake Schreier, who is directing the Thunderbolts film, will also direct this X-Men project, and Michael Lesslie, known for his work on The Hunger Games, is writing the screenplay. Currently, the movie doesn’t have a title, and details about the cast or when it will be released haven’t been announced.
Marvel Studios hasn’t started casting or announced details about its first X-Men movie yet, but work on those things is happening now. After bringing back some classic X-Men actors in the next two Avengers movies, Marvel will introduce a new cast to continue the X-Men story within the main Marvel universe (Earth-616).
Fans are hearing that Marvel Studios wants a younger cast for its first X-Men movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This approach would let the team develop and change over time, and also allow for many well-known X-Men stories to be adapted into the larger MCU storyline.
Marvel Studios has already hinted at the X-Men’s arrival, like with Patrick Stewart’s appearance as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Even more significantly, the character Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, is being set up as the first official mutant in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a change from her origins as an Inhuman in the comics.
Although specific plans haven’t been revealed yet, bringing Kevin Feige and the Marvel team on board for the X-Men will likely give the franchise the attention and prominence it deserves, placing it alongside Marvel Studios’ most popular properties.
