Is The Outer Worlds 2 on Xbox Game Pass?

I’m happy to share that The Outer Worlds 2 will be included with Xbox Game Pass right when it comes out, for both Xbox consoles and PC. You’ll be able to play it with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass immediately. And if you have Xbox Game Pass Premium, it will be added to that library about a year after the initial launch.

The Outer Worlds 2 is on Xbox Game Pass!

2025 was a major year for Xbox, with its game studios releasing several popular exclusive titles, including DOOM: The Dark Ages, Avowed, and Grounded 2. Xbox Game Pass also had a fantastic spring and summer, giving subscribers access to these new games as well as surprise hits like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Obsidian Entertainment released two popular Xbox games this year: Avowed and Grounded 2. Their next big RPG, The Outer Worlds 2, is scheduled for 2025 and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5.

The Outer Worlds 2, launching October 29th, is a true sequel to the popular 2019 game. From what we’ve seen, it feels like the spiritual successor to Fallout: New Vegas that fans have been hoping for. Obsidian recently showcased the game’s detailed RPG mechanics in a presentation called The Outer Worlds 2 Direct, and it’s generated a lot of excitement – for me and many others – about the upcoming release.

Since then, early hands-on previews have continued to build excitement for the game. My colleague Samuel Tolbert shared his experience with the fast-paced combat, and Zachary Boddy previewed the story and the many different ways players can progress through the game based on their choices.

Given the positive buzz and early previews, many gamers are now asking if The Outer Worlds 2 will be included with Xbox Game Pass. This popular Microsoft service lets subscribers play a large library of games, including both new releases and older favorites, for a monthly price.

Good news for fans: The Outer Worlds 2, published by Xbox Game Studios, will be available on Xbox Game Pass the day it launches. However, at first, it will only be accessible through two Game Pass subscription levels.

Players can access the game through several subscription services, including $29.99/month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (which works on Xbox, PC, and cloud gaming), and the PC-only $16.49/month PC Game Pass. It will also be available on the $14.99/month Xbox Game Pass Premium, but that won’t happen until about a year after the game is released.

Only Xbox Game Pass Essential members won’t get The Outer Worlds 2. This is because the Essential tier has a limited game selection and is mostly for players who primarily want to play online multiplayer games on their Xbox.

How else can you play The Outer Worlds 2?

Playing The Outer Worlds 2 with Xbox Game Pass is a great way to experience the game, but it won’t be the only option. You’ll still be able to play Obsidian’s new RPG even if you choose not to subscribe to the service.

If you think you’ll want to play the game again after finishing it, buying a copy is probably the best option. While Game Pass gives you access, paying for a subscription for several months can actually cost more than just buying the game outright.

As a researcher tracking game pricing, I’ve found that The Outer Worlds 2’s Standard Edition is currently listed at $69.99 across Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. If you’re looking for a more comprehensive package, the Premium Edition is available for $99.99 and includes four days of early access, plus a few exclusive in-game items.

You can currently get the Xbox version of the game (which also works on PC with Xbox Play Anywhere) for $55.79 at Loaded (previously known as CDKeys) due to a special preorder offer. If you’d prefer the Premium Edition, it’s available for $78.89 at Loaded, saving you over $20 compared to the standard price.
