During a recent presentation focused solely on Kirby Air Riders, director Masahiro Sakurai announced that Top Ride will be back. First appearing in the original game, Top Ride changes races to a bird’s-eye view. This feature returns in the sequel with some new additions.
Before you start, you can choose your rider and machine, then customize the game by setting how many computer-controlled opponents there are, their skill level, which machines they use, and even give yourself a handicap. The gameplay is the same as Air Ride Mode – boosting and drifting work exactly as you remember – but with a key difference: each player gets their own screen, and all riders and machines are unlocked from the beginning.
The game offers two ways to control your vehicle – Free and Steer. You’ll also find courses based on the popular Air Ride Mode. For a classic feel, you can display the game on a single screen with a diorama effect, recreating the original’s colors. Top Ride races can support up to eight players, but four is the ideal number for the best experience.
The game includes unique items such as Kaboomb, which explodes upon collection, Drift Flames that create a fiery trail, and the Drill Driver, which adds a drill to the front. Plus, you can play it online with others.
Get ready to soar with Kirby Air Riders, coming to Nintendo Switch on November 20th for $69.99! We’ll share more information soon during the Nintendo Direct.
