This week, from October 23rd to 30th, the Epic Games Store is giving away a single free game. Luckily, it’s a highly-rated horror title – perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit! If you’re looking for a spooky game to play this Halloween, this one is a great choice, as it’s been very well-received by players.
As with all free games on the Epic Games Store, once you claim Fear the Spotlight, it’s yours to keep forever. However, you need to claim it before October 30th, as it will be replaced with a different free game after that date. All Epic Games Store users can get it for free, and creating an account is completely free if you don’t already have one.
One of 2024’s Highest-Rated Horror Games
Cozy Game Pals and Blumhouse Games’ Fear the Spotlight received a solid 83 on Metacritic, making it one of the best-rated horror games from last year. But player reviews are even more enthusiastic! On Steam, the game has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating – the highest possible – with 97% of its 774 user reviews being positive.
If you haven’t heard of it, this game is a spooky, third-person horror experience. You play as Amy and Vivian, sneaking into a school late at night, and trying to survive after a séance goes terribly wrong. A monster is hunting you, naturally. That’s the basic idea, but it also includes puzzles for those who enjoy them. It’s worth knowing the game is relatively short, lasting around three to four hours – but players say those hours are really well-spent. Horror games generally aren’t very lengthy anyway.
I’ve been checking out some reviews, and people are saying it’s a really chill horror game with a cool story. The graphics are awesome – they’ve got this retro vibe that I love. Apparently, there are some fun puzzles too! One person compared it to the old Resident Evil games, but without all the fighting. Sounds perfect for when I want a spooky but not-too-stressful experience.
October 2025 doesn’t have many truly exciting new horror games, particularly after the highly anticipated Little Nightmares III didn’t quite meet expectations. That’s why this offer from the Epic Games Store is so welcome.
So, that’s my take! I’d love to hear what you think, though – definitely leave a comment and let me know, or come chat with other fans on the ComicBook Forum!
