Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! One of the biggest questions in Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga, One Piece, centers around what the “One Piece” actually is. This legendary treasure is said to be hidden on Laugh Tale, an island that hasn’t been reached in over 800 years except by the crew of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. Before his death, Roger revealed that whoever finds the treasure could have anything they desire – immense wealth, fame, power, and total freedom. The story began with this promise over 28 years ago, and so far, we’ve only gotten a few hints about what the treasure truly is.
Despite being in the final stretch of the story, details about the upcoming saga are scarce, and it appears Eiichiro Oda, the creator, isn’t planning to reveal much until Luffy discovers the treasure. Those working closely with Oda, like editor Junya Fukuda, naturally have a better understanding of the plot. The One Piece manga has moved into the eagerly awaited Elbaf Arc, which has already introduced a key character to the story.
One Piece Editor Reveals How Crucial Chapter 1137 Is

According to a well-known fan translator on X (@sandman_AP), editor Fukuda learned during a phone call with Oda in January 2025 that the chapter introducing Shamrock was incredibly important. Oda hinted that the chapter’s true meaning wouldn’t be clear until he revealed the core secret of One Piece.
Fans speculated that the cloaked figure meeting the Five Elders in chapter 907 was Shamrock Figarland and Shanks. They thought the phrase “first appearance” referred to that scene. However, the translator clarified that it actually refers to chapter 1137, when Shamrock’s design was revealed and he was formally introduced. Shamrock is not only a commander of the Holy Knights, but also Shanks’ older twin brother, and he’s shrouded in mystery. No one anticipated that the chapter introducing him would later become so important to the story.
I’ve been following the recent developments closely, and it’s becoming clear just how much planning Oda has put into this. He specifically mentioned that Fukuda, the animator, needs a solid understanding of One Piece before they even talk about the latest chapter. It seems the Figarland family has a deep history – they’re descendants of World Nobles who’ve lived in Marijoa since the very beginning of the World Government. From what I gather, Shanks and the rest of his crew are going to play a huge role in the upcoming Final War. This Elbaf arc is packed with backstory and hidden details, and this latest interview just confirms that there’s so much more going on beneath the surface than we realize.
