Deku Learned That Beating Shigaraki Means Losing The Thing He Holds Dearest in My Hero Academia Season 8 Episode 5

The latest episode of My Hero Academia switched focus from All For One’s backstory to Deku’s battle with Shigaraki. Deku fought well against Shigaraki, the new user of All For One’s powers, but the situation quickly became dangerous. During the fight, Shigaraki briefly touched Deku’s face and used that moment to steal the Danger Sense quirk – originally belonging to Shinomori – from All For One.
When Deku lost his Danger Sense, it felt like a major turning point in the battle, as it had been crucial for him to anticipate the villain’s moves. However, this loss unexpectedly provided a new opportunity. Because Shigaraki only took a piece of All For One’s power instead of the entire quirk, Kudo had a surprising thought: what if gradually transferring each individual part of the quirk to Deku, even forcibly, could damage Shigaraki from within? Deku might not be strong enough to win through physical force, but weakening Shigaraki’s mind could be the key to victory.
Kudo realizes Shigaraki harbors a deep-seated hatred, manifested as a solid black mass within him. Though incredibly resilient, this mass has a tiny fissure that Shigaraki’s healing abilities can’t repair. This is Shigaraki’s only remaining vulnerability, and Deku believes he can exploit it by attacking from within. Deku intends to essentially force himself into Shigaraki, focusing all his power on that small crack to shatter it and break through Shigaraki’s defenses. As seen at the end of My Hero Academia Episode 164, Deku prepares for this by bracing himself with Blackwhip and his remaining powers, activating Gearshift (Kudo’s quirk), and committing to a full-force impact.
MHA Season 8 Episode 6 Will Force Deku to Part With One For All to Save The World
The next episode of My Hero Academia Season 8 will begin with a crucial moment in the battle between Midoriya and Shigaraki. Having lost his Danger Sense, Deku decides to directly transfer aspects of All For One’s power to Shigaraki, even if he has to use force. He’ll start by channeling Kudo’s Gearshift quirk – viewers saw a glimpse of this power glowing on Deku’s fist at the end of the last episode – using Blackwhip to strengthen his body.
A preview for My Hero Academia Season 8, Episode 6 reveals that Deku will share one of One For All’s powers with Shigaraki, hoping to reach the villain’s inner self. The episode title, “Wrench it Open, Izuku Midoriya!”, suggests this is Deku’s only opportunity to connect with Shigaraki. Viewers will see if Deku’s plan works when the fight continues on November 8th.
