7 Most Powerful Marvel Characters Active Right Now

While Marvel isn’t typically known for characters with incredibly high power levels like some other comic universes, they definitely have plenty of powerful beings. Over time, Marvel has created many strong heroes and villains – some are gods or cosmic entities, and others are humans who gained powers through mutations, scientific experiments, or help from powerful beings. Traditionally, comic book villains are stronger than heroes to create dramatic tension, but Marvel has recently introduced more heroes who are exceptionally powerful, appearing in many of their comics.

Right now, the Marvel Universe feels incredibly powerful. Even with established heroes like Thor temporarily out of the picture (he’s been resurrected, but his full strength is unknown), there’s a wealth of incredibly strong heroes and villains. Here are seven of the most powerful characters currently active, some of whom are capable of defeating even gods.

7) Invisible Woman

Invisible Woman is a surprisingly powerful hero who doesn’t get the recognition she deserves. Early in her history, during the 1960s and 70s, she was often portrayed as either a spy or someone needing rescue within the Fantastic Four, and the writing at that time often wasn’t respectful to female characters. Over time, her abilities grew, and she eventually became the strongest member of the team – and one of the most powerful heroes on the planet. She’s even demonstrated the power to break through Celestial armor, which is famously nearly impossible to destroy. The latest run of the Fantastic Four comic is giving her more attention, and although she hasn’t had many standout moments lately, she’s certainly capable of incredible things.

6) Professor Xavier

Professor X is considered the most powerful telepath on Earth, a skill he’s possessed since his first appearance. As an Omega-level mutant, he can influence minds on a large scale – he even communicated with every person on the planet in their own language, as shown in House of X #6. He routinely copied the memories of thousands of mutants while simultaneously using his powers for other tasks. Though he was recently imprisoned and then freed from Graymalkin prison, Xavier is currently off-world with Lilandra, working to save their daughter, and has appeared in stories related to Imperial. With the X-Men set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon, it’s highly likely he’ll return to Earth and the X-Mansion in the near future.

5) Hulk

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the Hulk. He’s arguably the most powerful character in the entire universe, and definitely the most unstable. Seriously, the angrier he gets, the stronger he becomes, and his healing factor makes Wolverine look like he’s recovering from a cold! Recent comics, especially The Immortal Hulk, have really expanded his lore, revealing he’s connected to a cosmic being called the One Below All. We’ve even seen him take on this incredibly powerful entity called the Mother of Monsters, and it led to him becoming the Infernal Hulk – an even more powerful version! Honestly, a lot of the discussion around the Hulk these days focuses on just how strong he is – you go online and it’s all about him breaking through realities. It feels like the character’s psychological struggles are getting lost in the power scaling. He’s reached an unbelievably powerful form… but knowing the Hulk, it won’t be long before he levels up again!

4) Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom currently holds the title of Sorcerer Supreme and is the primary antagonist in the ‘One World Under Doom’ storyline. As Sorcerer Supreme, he’s become even more powerful, using this position to conquer the world and defeat any hero who challenges him. He’s achieved magical feats beyond previous Sorcerers Supreme, fueled by the life force he’s taken from the people of Latveria. He’s arguably the most powerful Sorcerer Supreme ever, though he’s expected to lose the title soon. For the moment, however, he’s incredibly strong.

3) Scarlet Witch

Following the Sorcerer Supreme, let’s talk about the Scarlet Witch. Wanda Maximoff has consistently been one of the most powerful figures in the Marvel Universe. Although she hasn’t recently displayed the same level of power as seen in stories like “Avengers Disassembled: Chaos” and House of M, she’s steadily improved her magical skills, making her reality-altering abilities even stronger. She’s starred in several solo comic series, is a key member of the Avengers, and will soon be the focus of Sorcerer Supreme, a series that will officially name her the new Sorcerer Supreme – a move largely influenced by her popularity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

2) Storm

Storm has long been one of the most powerful mutants, and her control over the weather has steadily grown. However, the recent “From the Ashes” series has taken her abilities to a new level. Now, as the host of the cosmic entity known as Eternity – essentially, the power of the universe itself – Storm can access incredible cosmic forces. This allows her to easily defeat even god-like beings, making her the most powerful version of the character we’ve ever seen and truly embodying the ‘goddess’ title her friends have given her.

1) Phoenix

Jean Grey’s connection to the Phoenix Force has been central to her story. After being resurrected, she’s once again wielding its incredible power. She recently played a key role in defeating a powerful, timeless being called Enigma and has now left Earth to use her abilities to protect the universe, as explored in her recent comic, Phoenix. The first issue showed her saving an entire planet from a supernova, demonstrating her immense strength. She’s faced enemies like Thanos and the Black Order, establishing her as one of the most powerful beings in existence. Because she’s become so powerful – easily capable of solving all the X-Men’s problems – she’ll likely remain off-Earth or have her powers reduced, following the cancellation of her solo series.
