The war for Tokyo is about to get underway, and your finger’s on the trigger.
This week, Hamster – a Japanese game developer known for its dedication – is releasing the classic 1996 arcade game Tokyo Wars on the PlayStation Store. As part of their Arcade Archives series, the game will be available on November 5th for $16.99 on PS5 and $14.99 on PS4.

Here’s the blurb from the game’s official website:
Released in 1996 by Namco (now Bandai Namco Entertainment), Tokyo Wars is an action-packed shooter where you choose to fight with either the Green or White forces. Battle it out through detailed city streets – destroy your opponents or be destroyed in the fight for Tokyo!
While Tokyo Wars inspired a sequel called Tank! Tank! Tank! on the Wii U in 2012, critics didn’t like it, finding the gameplay too repetitive and lacking lasting appeal.
However, the original was acclaimed for its production values, and destruction physics.
This PlayStation version won’t fully recreate the original arcade game’s physical sensations – the arcade used air pressure to create tactile feedback – but it should still be a unique and enjoyable experience, similar to how recently emulated Aqua Jet played on Sony’s system.
