How Rihanna Unknowingly Turned the Hamnet Set Into a Rave

Jessie Buckley has Rihanna to thank for letting her escape into the music.

The actor from Hamnet thanked the Grammy-winning musician for unknowingly contributing to the music for a key scene in the historical film directed by Chloé Zhao.

Jessie shared with TopMob News at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on November 18th that Chloé would often film dance sequences on the last day of shooting. With a large group of around 300 extras and crew members inside the set, which represented a globe, she played Rihanna’s song ‘We Found Love’ after they finished a challenging shoot.

The project tells a fictional story about William Shakespeare and his wife, Anne Hathaway, and their sorrow over the death of their 11-year-old son, Hamnet. Though the story is set in the late 1500s, Jessie, involved with the production, described the energy on set as being similar to a modern dance party.

Oh my gosh, you would NOT believe it! The actress who is Agnes – you know, Anne from the Maggie O’Farrell book the movie’s based on? – she said it was like being at a rave on set! She told me the whole place just started vibrating, seriously! All the extras, everyone… she said it was absolutely amazing. I’m SO obsessed with this movie and hearing that detail just makes me even more excited!

The scene was made possible by the artistic vision of the Academy Award-winning director.

She enthusiastically praised Chloé’s cooking, saying she’s excellent at using high-quality ingredients. She also complimented everyone involved, calling them all incredible.

Jessie praised the Oscar-winning director for bringing together the film’s impressive cast, including Paul Mescal, Joe Alwyn, and Noah Jupe.

I’d met Paul briefly before filming began, but we really got to know each other during the process. Emily Watson has always been an incredible friend and support to me. Even before she was officially cast, I knew she had to play that role alongside me in the film. I told Chloé that, and I was thrilled when she agreed.

I’m so excited for Hamnet! It’s starting in select cities on November 26th, and then it’ll be playing everywhere on December 12th. If you want to stay up-to-date on all the new movies coming out, keep an eye out for more release information!
