After nearly 20 years, the last eight unaired episodes of Joey, the Friends spin-off, have appeared online. While many great TV shows exist, few have had the lasting appeal of Friends. The 90s sitcom followed the funny and relatable lives of a group of attractive young adults in New York City. It was consistently funny, with heartwarming storylines about relationships and whether characters would find love. Friends was a huge success that also helped launch the careers of stars like Jennifer Aniston, and it continues to be popular today with new viewers discovering it on streaming services.
The finale of Friends was a huge cultural moment, watched by over 52 million people in the US. It remains one of the most-watched series finales of all time. Given the show’s massive popularity, NBC wanted to keep the franchise going, and a spin-off called Joey was created. It followed Matt LeBlanc’s character as he moved to Los Angeles to become an actor, but the show didn’t last very long.
Friends Spin-Off, Joey, Gets Final Eight Lost Episodes Released
The show Joey aired for two seasons, from 2004 to early 2006. The first season did reasonably well, but ratings dropped significantly in Season 2. This was due to competition from popular shows like American Idol, as well as negative reactions from both viewers and critics. While Joey was sometimes funny, many felt it wasn’t as good as Friends. A major reason for this was the absence of the original creative team, and it often felt like the show was made simply to profit from the success of Friends. It also lacked the strong connection between all the actors that made Friends so popular.
Fans of the show Joey are in for a treat! The series was cut short years ago, and the final eight episodes were never shown… until now. As a huge fan of the show, I have to say that knowing Season 2 wasn’t originally intended as the end explains why the finale doesn’t tie everything up neatly. Still, it’s amazing to get more unseen content, especially for those of us who adore the series. It’s funny, because when it first aired, opinions were pretty divided, but if you look at the comments now, they’re overwhelmingly positive – people really love it!
