The world of Game of Thrones remains incredibly popular, with more shows like House of the Dragon and the new series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms planned for the future. While Game of Thrones has been adapted into games before, the upcoming game is particularly exciting because it will retell the original story within a well-known and beloved gaming universe, and it’s being released next week!
The latest game in the popular Legendary series is based on Game of Thrones. Previous Legendary games have featured Marvel, The Matrix, Aliens, and DC Comics. This new version lets you play through key events from the HBO series, with a new gameplay mode centered around the fight for the Iron Throne. Best of all, it comes out next Wednesday, November 26th – perfect for a Thanksgiving weekend game night!
In this game, players select a famous house from the Game of Thrones universe – like the Starks, Targaryens, Lannisters, or Baratheons. Unlike earlier versions of Legendary, this edition lets you compete directly against other players, recreating the conflicts and strategic maneuvering between the houses as seen in the show and books.
Similar to other games from Legendary, you’ll build a team of heroes and fight against powerful villains called Masterminds. Recently revealed Masterminds include King Robert Baratheon, Rhaegal, Vision & Drogon, Casterly Rock, and Robb, King in the North. We’ve also gotten a sneak peek at other cards like Lord Edward Stark (Leader of Men), Jaime Lannister (Intertwined), and Young Dragons (Three Dragons) – you can see them in the images provided.
The game continues the theme of feuding families, so you’ll build your team by recruiting heroes, masterminds, defenders, allies, and henchmen specifically from your chosen House. You’ll then decide whether to help your own forces and allies, or fight against your rivals and their supporters. The game features original artwork from the series and includes a total of 550 cards, along with a play mat, player boards, and a rule book. You can find more details in the official description.
