I’m so hyped for the next season of Jujutsu Kaisen! We don’t have to wait much longer – the anime is coming back in January, but get this: a special movie, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, is hitting theaters December 4th! It’s got two episodes from the new season to get us started. And the story isn’t just moving forward with the main series – they’ve thrown in a cool surprise! A major character who we thought was gone for good has somehow returned, and it’s a total shock to see who it is!
Junpei Yoshino is considered one of the most heartbreaking characters in a series already known for its intense challenges. Though not as famous as characters like Yuji, Gojo, Megumi, and Nobara, he quickly became a close friend to Itadori. After his mother died, Junpei was manipulated by the villain Mahito and sought revenge, eventually leading him to fight against Itadori. They began to resolve their issues, but Mahito intervened, tragically killing Junpei before he could officially join Jujutsu Tech.
The mobile game Jujutsu Kaisen: Phantom Parade explores alternate versions of the anime’s story, showing players what could have happened if key events unfolded differently. In one instance, Junpei avoids Mahito’s attack and teams up with Yuji Itadori to defeat the curse. Their combined strength leads to a more favorable outcome for the heroes than the original storyline. You can check out this alternate scenario below.

Anime What Ifs

Jujutsu Kaisen isn’t the only popular action series to play with alternate storylines in its video games. The Dragon Ball franchise is well-known for this, especially with games like the Budokai Tenkaichi series and the new Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero. Sparking Zero, which focuses on the Z-Fighters, presents ‘what if’ scenarios – like Goku turning Super Saiyan before reaching Namek, or Vegeta and Trunks defeating Cell. While these alternate stories probably won’t be shown in the anime, they’re a fun treat for dedicated fans.
Even though the original Jujutsu Kaisen manga finished last year, the story continued in a surprising way with the new series, Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, which began earlier this year. Creator Gege Akutami is writing this sequel, set decades after the events of the first series, and it introduces a new element: aliens. While it hasn’t been officially announced, many fans expect Modulo to be adapted into an anime in the future.
