Scrubs Reboot Adds Two More Returning Stars

Title Question: Will there be a Scrubs reunion?

The popular TV show Scrubs is making a comeback! The reboot has been given the green light by ABC for the 2025-2026 season, with Zach Braff returning to play Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian. As reported by Variety, Sarah Chalke will also return as J.D.’s wife and fellow doctor, Elliot Reid, and Donald Faison as J.D.’s best friend, Dr. Christopher Turk. Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, is serving as executive producer for this revival, with several more cast members from the original series expected to reprise their roles.

Scrubs holds a tremendous amount of significance for me, as expressed in my statement,” Lawrence shared. “I’m thrilled at the prospect of reuniting with the team again.

According to the logline, “J.D. (Braff) and Turk (Faison) find themselves in the same operating room again after a long absence – medicine has evolved, the interns are different, but their friendship remains as strong as ever. As both familiar and new characters negotiate the challenges of Sacred Heart Hospital, they do so with humor, emotion, and a few unexpected twists.

Initially, in the year 2001, characters J.D., Turk, and Elliot started their internships at Sacred Heart Hospital. The team included nurse Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes), the Janitor (Neil Flynn), Dr. Perry Cox (John C. McGinley), the chief of medicine Dr. Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins) among others. For eight seasons, the story unfolded at the original Sacred Heart Hospital, which was later demolished and rebuilt on a medical school campus by season 9. In this new phase, doctors J.D., Turk, Cox, and a retired Kelso took up teaching roles and guided medical students such as Lucy Bennett (Kerry Bishé), Denise “Jo” Mahoney (Eliza Coupe), Cole Aaronson (Dave Franco), and Ed Dhandapani (Aziz Ansari).

The sitcom “Scrubs” aired a total of 182 episodes over nine seasons, starting in 2001 and ending in 2010. During this time, 7 out of the 9 seasons were broadcasted on NBC, while the last two seasons were shown on ABC. The last episode we saw was “Our Stuff Gets Real” from season 9, which featured Christa Miller as Jordan and depicted J.D. and a pregnant Elliot going on a babymoon. In the series finale, “Our Thanks,” only Zach Braff (J.D.) and Donald Faison (Turk) reprised their roles from the original series.

2024 saw a mini-cast reunion photo featuring Courtney Cox and David Arquette, formerly known as exes, which suggests their characters, Cox and Jordan, may appear in the upcoming revival.

Lawrence has mentioned that the actors and writers of that series are incredibly skilled, which is why they’re all actively involved. He expressed to Variety that the primary motivation behind organizing a Scrubs reunion isn’t just the work, but rather because we genuinely enjoy spending time together. He believes that a reunion is likely to occur in the future.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to announce that the mastermind behind some of Scrubs’ most memorable moments, Tim Hobert, along with Aseem Batra, are steering the ship for the show’s comeback on ABC. The legendary Bill Lawrence is serving as executive producer, and Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and John C. McGinley will also be back in their iconic roles, producing and starring. Disney’s 20th Television is the studio behind this exciting project. If you’re yearning for a Scrubs fix, all nine seasons are available to stream on Hulu!
