Stanley Kubrick’s deleted scenes….

I recently had the chance to speak with Leon Vitali, the actor from Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, and it was fascinating. He was clearly in awe of Kubrick’s directing and ended up working closely with him for the rest of his career. Vitali shared some incredible stories about being on set, and we spent a good chunk of our conversation discussing The Shining. He talked at length about the deleted scenes, particularly an alternate ending. Apparently, it showed Wendy in the hospital after everything that happened at the Overlook, with a visit from the hotel manager. Ultimately, Kubrick decided against it, opting for the now-iconic final shot: a tracking shot through the empty hotel that lands on a photo from the 1929 New Year’s Eve party, with Jack Torrance right in the middle.
