Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Reverses the MCU’s Biggest Thor Mistake

The recent Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t been as consistently strong as the previous era, the Infinity Saga. While Marvel Studios deserves praise for taking risks with projects like Eternals and Moon Knight, many haven’t lived up to the high standards set before. Now, Marvel hopes to revitalize the franchise with , which is being touted as one of the most ambitious superhero films ever made.

Marvel Studios has been making big announcements about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. The Russo Brothers are back as directors, and Robert Downey Jr. will surprisingly play Doctor Doom! We’ll also see familiar characters from both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men films. The movie’s marketing is different – Marvel is releasing short teasers focusing on individual characters. The first teaser confirmed Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers, along with other previously announced cast members. Most recently, new footage revealed details about Thor’s role that fans will be excited to see.

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Underwent a Major Transformation in the MCU

Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen some of its original heroes, like Iron Man and Black Widow, retire, Thor has remained a key player, especially as the Multiverse Saga unfolds. He was the first of the original Avengers to get a fourth individual movie, but unfortunately, it wasn’t as well-received as his previous films.

His time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with the popular Kenneth Branagh film, which highlighted the character’s connection to Shakespearean drama – a theme that carried over into Joss Whedon’s first Avengers movie.

Thor reappeared in The Dark World, but it didn’t capture the same fun and spirit as other Marvel movies, making it a low point in the overall Infinity Saga. After a somewhat bland appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it became clear that the character needed a fresh direction, and director Taika Waititi was brought in to help.

In Avengers: Infinity War, Thor showed off his updated, more playful personality, though the serious events of the film toned it down a bit. Avengers: Endgame then took Thor’s character in a very different direction, portraying him as out of shape and struggling with depression. Eventually, however, he regained his more cheerful and optimistic self.

Avengers: Doomsday Appears To Be a Return To Form for Thor

The upcoming film featuring Hemsworth, and Avengers: Doomsday, aims to correct some issues with the recent movies, particularly the way Thor has been portrayed. The teaser trailer hints that the directors will give Thor a more grounded and dramatic storyline.

The video shows Thor praying to his father, Odin, and watching over his adopted daughter, Love. Becoming a father has raised the stakes for Thor more than ever before, and this new drive will influence his interactions with characters like Reed Richards and Steve Rogers.

The Russo brothers previously directed Thor in Avengers: Infinity War, skillfully blending his comedic and serious sides. Many fans consider this portrayal to be the character’s best, and the Russo brothers could easily recapture that quality in a potential Doomsday project. They also delivered some of Thor’s most memorable and powerful scenes, like his moments during the Battle of Wakanda in Infinity War and the climactic battle in Endgame.

Following Thor: Love and Thunder, Chris Hemsworth has indicated he’s ready to explore new depths with the character, and Avengers: Doomsday could be the perfect starting point for the next chapter of Thor’s story. Having been a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its beginning, there’s still much potential to uncover with Thor, including exciting possibilities like battles with Hercules or a team-up with Beta Ray Bill. A more serious and dramatic tone would be an ideal way to move forward.
