Fallout’s Ella Purnell stars in killer trailer for Sweetpea thriller

As a film enthusiast with a knack for dark comedies and thrillers, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and excitement upon seeing the trailer for Sky’s “Sweetpea”. The story of a seemingly ordinary woman, Rhiannon Lewis, played by Ella Purnell, who is pushed to her breaking point and transforms into a murderous vigilante, seems right up my alley.

Prepare yourself for an exhilarating journey, as the darkly comedic and sinisterly twisted thriller titled “Sweetpea,” produced by Sky, has now released its complete trailer to the public.

In the spotlight is Ella Purnell portraying Rhiannon Lewis, a woman who’s currently facing an uphill battle. According to the plot summary, Rhiannon encounters multiple setbacks at work, her romantic interests remain unreciprocated, and her father’s health deteriorates significantly. Eventually, these pressures become too much for her to bear, leading her to reach a breaking point where she finally loses control.

All of a sudden, the shy one disappears, replaced by a dynamic woman with limitless potential. This transformation sets off a whirlwind in Rhiannon’s life as she embraces this bewitching influence. However, can she conceal her dark past as a murderer?

In the trailer, Purnell’s character Rhiannon is being introduced. At first sight, she appears completely ordinary. However, it quickly becomes clear that she harbors a deep inclination towards murder, suggesting a more complex nature than initially perceived!

Naming those individuals who seem to overlook her abilities, such as Norman at work, who often neglects her talents, or Julia Blenkinsopp, the one who once caused significant harm and now seems indifferent to her existence.

But Rhiannon also makes other lists, including of the people she’d “love to kill”.

In the ongoing sequence, Rhiannon is captured saying “back off” to someone, followed by a scene where she’s shown drenched in blood.

However, it seems that her desire to commit murder could be coming back to haunt her, as clues are starting to connect a series of homicides within a police conference room.

She’s saying, ‘Don’t make the mistake of underestimating me,’ as someone comments, ‘You don’t know her as well as you think.’

Beyond myself, our dynamic group features Nicôle Lecky from Sense8 portraying Julia, Jon Pointing of Big Boys as Craig, Calam Lynch from Bridgerton taking on the role of AJ, and Leah Harvey from Foundation bringing Marina to life.

As a movie lover, I’m thrilled to share that the talented Jeremy Swift, known for his role in Ted Lasso, will be joining our cast as Norman. Additionally, we have Dustin Demri-Burns from Slow Horses stepping into the role of Jeff. Can’t wait to see their performances!

The six-part series has been adapted from CJ Skuse’s novel of the same name.
